C&C4
« on: March 12, 2010, 04:39:48 PM »
Who's excited? I dunno how I feel about the mobile bases, Starcraft-esque 'pick it up and bring it back' resource system, or the experience based tech unlocks... on the other hand, it's Joe mahfuggin' Kucan, so it has to be good... right?!?!!?

I'm kind of on the fence...
Scrapping Basebuilding can work out well (made more sense in DoW2 for example) but since it was an integral part of every C&C before, I'm pretty sure I'll miss it.
The "mobile" gameplay also imho promotes rush tactics which I'm not fond of, I'm more  a turtler/steamroller but apparently most people want more action from the get-go so yeah...
Resource system is a copy of DoW (main resource location is a point you have to capture) and the crystal drop-in seems kinda weird, although from the videos I've seen it seems like an MP only thing, we'll see.
The tech unlocks are the usual "RPGifing" of pretty much everything lately.

I'll wait for a demo before I decide if I buy it or not...

I'm also somewhat on the fence about it.. on one hand, its a new style of game (for the franchise) and I also like the whole build a base from the previous titles... on the other hand, I own all the main games from the  franchise except Red Alert 3(DOS C&C, Theater of War, C&C3) and most of the expansions (all but Firestorm or Yuri's Revenge, they didn't come with the Theater of War pack). I'm also a little wary of the 'It's gonna be the last game in the series' thing they're saying, because its EA and they just LOVE expansion packs.... (Spot Tiberium Twilight expansion pack Revenge of the Scrin or something equally stupid with a game mode noone plays (Global Conquest), and more imbalanced subfactions (1.0 Traveler 59 mechapede spam anyone?)).

I think I'll take a page from your book and wait for a demo, though knowing me and my fanboyism for C&C titles (barring Generals, that is NOT a C&C game IMO) I'll end up buying it and playing it anyway. Hope its good  :-\

The only C&C games that meant something to me were the original and legendary Command & Conquer, Red Alert and its expansions (but as i'm more familiar with the console version of Red Alert (C&C1 to lesser extent) RA: Retaliation with all its nice, huge bugs and massive 'lag' would have to be slightly more familiar for me..), Tiberian Sun (even with the huge lag and stuff) and Red Alert 2 a little aswell as it was simply fun to play.

I wouldn't touch any newer game with a C&C title even with a long a stick. Sorry. Didn't come here to complain, just saying. C&C is officially done with.
C'mon really compare the story lines and stuff, the music, the simple but fun gameplay, the simple yet beautiful little 'bit-mess' units, the actors (such as Kane) of the first C&C games to those of the new "C&C" games.  :(

One more thing... I think the C&C-title ceased to exist when it was no longer a game developed by the good old westwood. Correct me if i'm wrong but I think there's almost none of the original westwood staff working on C&C at EA...

on the fence as well.

lets see here... unit cap? no base building? no tiberium fields? that doesnt sound like C&C to me, but when theres a demo ill make my decision. sadly it looks grim for me  :-X

I loved C&C always but this time I'm really disappointed. There are so many changes... mobile gameplay, low unit cap etc... but one thing stays the same: the old SAGE-engine... *lol*. So I don't see why there should be a happy ending for this game. I like new features but you know chess stays chess and C&C should stay at least C&C.

God I miss Westwood.

Red Alert 2 is easily the most fun to play, hilarious, over-the-top RTS ever.

Mind-controlled Giant Squid? Yep.

Attack Dogs? You Betcha.

Jihad Mobiles, Crazy Women, awesome accents, and TIME TRAVEL? ALL OVER THE DAMN PLACE.

As much as I enjoyed playing it, it was pretty obvious after the first level that C&C3 wasn't done by Westwood. It just... didn't feel right. Kane's Wrath was the same. I'm sure C&C4 will feel even less like TD/TS, the good old titles, but as long as they don't mess it up tooooo badly, it'll be a good game (whether or not it'll be a good C&C game is another story), and even if my end opinion is that I don't like it, I'm sure I'll at least get my money's worth while playing it.

I'm still calling an expansion to it, wouldn't be an EA game without an expansion pack.

Oh man, Elite Legionnaires were the most overpowered thing ever, moreso than the Elite Apocalypse.  So much fun to use, though.  As soon as I get legionnaires, and I normally turtle and tech up to them as fast as possible whenever I played Allies, I would take them and start erasing all my opponent's Harvesters followed by their power plants.  I'd just sit back and laugh at them as they struggle to fix everything with no money and no power.

It's a shame the direction C&C games have taken; they used to have so much personality, but now it's all just clones of the previous one.  I don't have my hopes up, but I'll try the C&C 4 demo and hope to be pleasantly surprised.

My friend and I have a running joke about rank 3 G.I.'s with sandbags. Those things could put out some serious hurt to vehicles, and a line of them was just as good as a line of tanks.

So apparently the game was released 2 days ago with no demo.

I'm super wary now, but the metascore isn't actually that bad.  71/100 is kinda meh, but might still be fun; $50 is a bit too high for me in regards to a game that upsets the dynamic found in all other previous C&C games, but we'll see.

Has anyone actually bought it yet?  Impression/Reviews?
