I wasn't even aware that BAs could go passive at all!  I just assumed their radar was permanently active.

It is. BA has no toggle for radar. They are just passive all the time ;)

the OP should just be glad the BA didn't really ninja him by throwing a few C8 blocks on his rear armor and exploding his mech. that's always a good trick, i love it when the victim starts calling you haxxors and a cheat when he gets his mech blown away from a few well placed C8s and a PPC on the rear hatch...hehe classic.

Pay more attention next time mech jock!

I killed a BA midair with SRMs last night haha confused me.

Yeah i wish we had more options for C3 cause the osiris and ravens are no fun in the time of heavy/assault mechs. WHERES MY ORION! now theres a proper raven, 90 tons packing even more Ewar goodies then the raven.

I don't know about you, but if I just walked out of the hanger, and a BA shot me in the butt, I would just turn around and blew them into tiny peices even if it was a team mate >.>

Tactics you can use:
1) Call for help.  Certain Mechs/Vehicles are extremely effective against BA, and hopefully your teammates will be willing to kill it for you.

3) If it starts to rush you, backpedal away from it.  Most Mechs can outrun a BA even while moving backward, and BA tend to be much easier to deal with at range.  By backpedaling, you keep it at range while limiting its lateral movement, making it much easier to hit.

some players simply view them as easy kills.

OK what he said.

For those of you that use the Team speak teamwork tool (free open public) please just say "I've got a BA on me in sector C5, requesting assistance"
I promise I'll zoom in on you with my lasers for those easy kills as soon as I'm done firing my narc, patience.

I need a little clarification cause I've been confused regarding BA showing on radar. They seem to disappear and reappear on it at random. Is it based on their range from me? If so, it must be a very small distance til they vanish from my scopes. It seems they can disappear from radar simply by jump jetting upwards.

I thin the detection range for a BA is 100 or maybe 150m. Any BA's seen further than that are being spotted by C3.

For a vehicle with the default radar suite, a BA can be detected when the BA is within 100m.  If you have BAP, that extends the range out to 200m, and if you have BHP out to 300m.

Here's why:

I had a BA follow me back to base with passive radar, creeping like a ninja the whole way. He knew i was damaged.
I went in to base for repairs after mixing it up oppsing mech's face on like the game is intended.

I came out ready to go at it again, and hiding in the trees using PASSIVE RADAR he took pot shots at me with the "BLUE BA CANNON".

Now, I play BA when my mech gets blow up and take on mech out in the field, but I am telling you right now, BA should not have PASSIVE RADAR period...

Now, I am sure that there are people who will say "the only thing BA has is passive radar to survive, and yes, I understans that as well.

SO what is the tactic I should have used for the :::BA NINJA TRICK:::

Lemme get this straight:

Someone uses his brains and shoots you, therefore BA should be forced to pop up on peoples radar, all the time?

Wow.  The logic, it ... boggles me.

LOL.

About sick of the pansies jumpin outta their cored mech before it goes critical.  Then plugging away at you off radar with the RPG (or whatever weapon it is it isn't on my list)  to avoid being killed and getting a kill.  Very lame.  I see how these guys go 38-6 in  a 60 minute server.  No way a single infantryman should be able to take down a battlemech even at 50% damage.

Actually the majority of people getting the really high K:D ratio is because they take the time to Kill BA. Their overall score is lower. Because its doing damage that matters, not getting kills. I almost never eject from my mech because I would rather die and get a new mech than face the long walk back to the hangar, time that could be better spent racking up points in something with big guns.

I make it a point to always take a mech that has some kind of BA killing weapon. Fortunately most mechs do.

The BA can be only detected around 100m for normal radar, it's just another reason why C3 is so important but often ignored :p

I hate C3, ever since this is ingame I constantly get LBL-popped by people 600m away  :'(

It would only be fair to give us C3 and some expensive equipment raising our radar to standart mech levels  ;D

BA who get LBL popped at 600 meters aren't being seen by C3 but with the naked eye. Probably the biggest BA blunder is jump jetting too high and too often. You become a skeet shooting target. I can't tell you how many BA I would never have hit out of the air if they hadn't been kind enough to give themselves one more boost with their jetpack...
