Really, though, if you want to talk 'best', in terms of overall power, it's probably one of the Mk2s. Hell, the prime does the trick imo. You get a mix of all the cheesiest things available:

Easy to use/powerful LRMs.
Gauss rifles, which are better than UACs in most close quarters fighting and have better range/easier to aim
4 ermls for decent beams
and JJs to make all of that poptart

Oh, and good armor.

I personally like the Mauer C more than the B...
Dunno, it's got more texture, some subtle "oomph" I can't really describe.

Still needs a wankcake cannon, everything does, but what can you do?

 great allrounder, just wish i could upgrade it when i get to a high rank

after that the 4 erppc nova cat

Novacat A and C (6 CER LBL or 4 CER PPC's) The 6 CER LBL can cut most mediums and lights down in a matter of seconds with pinpoint fire. While the Novacat A is great for larger targets and causing massive splash damage and knock with the CER PPC's in chain fire mode. Novacat prime is able to take on the spectrum while having useful weapons that can be effective across the spectum and the B is effective at medium ranges with the pulse being able to strip armor off with the quick recycling C LPL's. The only major hole in the Novacat is its lack of electronics beyond Eoptics and that is about the only thing that keeps the mech in check.

cost per effectiveness it's got to be the Scat, I know too many vet pilots that tear through anything with it.

Nova cat and hollander are the best mech easily. Scat is a close second with Atlas being 3rd mauler 4th.
