Not a good day at the office... errr... mech ;)
« on: March 21, 2010, 02:17:00 AM »
Well Can I just take the time first to say thank you to everyone involved in this project its truly a great achievement.

Secondly I understand its a beta and yes their will be problems I just need somewhere to vent lol

A little background first.  I'm probably what you'd call "average joe" round here, I played mw2 mercenaries back in the red blocky good old days lol.  My friend had mw3 and I loved that, I played MW4 all the expansions black night mekpaks all that stuff.  I'm generally more into campaigns than online play, but I do enjoy it from time to time.

Well today was one of those everything that can go wrong in the mod does go wrong days...
1) numerous glitches - all annoying but forgiven due to beta-ness
2) This guy called Spartan with a ping 3 (sometimes 5) times higher than everyone else.  You couldn't kill him, he had no problem killing us, but I fired 2 AC20 volleys at his (stationary) mech and he took no damage, then I exploded... Killed by Spartan... I wasn't the only one getting annoyed by this
3)Long tom... Well its fine for enemy to use whilst its camped in their own base safely surrounded by mechs, I tried it once (well twice but first time I sat in Hanger waiting for scout to be ready and died without fighting back), backed up by actual scouting so I had targets, and got complained at in game chat for quote "ruining the game" and I should "go back to counterstrike" (not that I ever played).  The 2 tries to attack my stationary unguarded longtom were a mad cat mk 2 that tried to flank me with active radar (come on???) and a shadowcat running in a straight line towards me...  I actually abandoned my long tom when all the nova cats and mad cat mk2's stopped standing next to each other in an impenetrable wall.  I had the grand total of 3 kills!!!!! Wow I made such an impact...  I didn't even need to reload before I abandoned it... The other team came back later with one that we had to kill but I was the one ruining the game with my bad aim just because it worked?
4) Nova cats just standing stationary next to each other with pulse lasers... get near your arm falls off instantly... Just tears through armour (and long tom would be ruining the game ofc  ::))

Venting done... Sorry if my rant disturbed you  :o

It was a bit sad, when they complained about our team using LT when all they did all game as use LT over and over with tons of assault mechs.

I tend to filter out a lot of what's said in chat about "how the game is supposed to be played". The TLL servers auto kick players that are over 250 ping which i one of the reasons i love playing on there.

No joke a lot of us that can get to the NC at higher ranks almost forgo it cause it feels kinda 'cheap'.  I say 'cheap' but i really mean 'easy' more so than missile boating.

He was hitting 247 at times, usually 180's very rare occasions below 100.  He was basically impossible to kill, you'd shoot at him, register a hit, but his armour wouldn't go down... Then you'd get shot from somewhere else...

The novacat is annoying usually but stacking multiple NC's next to each other all firing pulse lasers just vapourises mechs in seconds...from 600 odd metres... And if you bring the long range artillery in to stop them camping in front of their own base (with a long tom in it sometimes!!!!) the response is basically that your a noob and ruining the game...  Which doesn't make for a particularly enjoyable evening I must say...
I mean come on I had 3 kills and a bad aim, my first time I'd ever bothered to get in a long tom... I don't think I was ruining it for anyone  :o

I'm all for toms, love them to pieces cause they force people drop the slow siege mentality and get back to a faster paced flanking attack mode that found early game.

So your saying I should have stayed in it then :p
I did tell them on chat if you don't want to get tomm'd don't stand assaults and heavys grouped together on the map, but they didn't seem to care.  I'd have left the server if my friend (who was scouting for me) hadn't been there.

Yep, I'm all for Tomming the shit out of any boater and turtles that didn't get the notice that fast flanking hunts under passive mode is still key end game.

in your defense though the Ncats are retarded. Those damn things must have 2x the heatsink values they are suppose to because they can shoot LPL for days without shutting down or using coolant. I hate them currently and I have no qualms about jumping in a LT and bombing the shit out of the tards in the Cpults and Ncats who stand in one spot and boat and tart for 56mins of every damn match. You have noticed the vast majority of actual MechWarrior-esque play only occurs in the last 4mins of every match?

Players in Ncats and Cpults camping, then bitching about your LT ruining the game... You're just ruining their game of ruining the game =). If they're complaining, you're doin something right.

Well here's the thing about last night, I joined late because I was busy updating my computer for the first 45 minutes of the game.  Had to hack my registry to get my tv out on second screen to work again took a while finally fixed it all.  90 minute games aren't my cup of tea to begin with usually but that's the one Sheepy joined.
When I joined it was already nova cat, shadowcat and pretty soon mad cat mark 2 spam.  And then the first guy I targeted was Spartan... Who was impossible to hit jumping around made me think the whole game was laggy, but low and behold I could hit everyone else... Then Sheepy gave me an Atlas so I didn't have to run around getting killed, the graphics glitched and my PPCs were firing in opposite directions, amongst a few other glitches (beta  forgiven ;)) so I had to quit server... As I said all things that can go wrong will lol.
But the entire game seemed to be "I have a bigger mech than you" except an lrm cougar running round missile spamming (forgive him for that he wasnt camping but I legged him to stop him running away from me (yes I know I hate legging too but in certain situations its justified).

Seriously, this game isn't meant to be "I have a bigger mech than you, I win" is it???  I didn't think so but some games are going that way it seems.

the longer games on maps with no air assets tend to do that.  It's one of the reasons why i love the Tom.  The bigger they get they slower they are which just feeds it.

When I joined, the other team was raping my team to bits. So I jumped into an LT, got 11 kills in 5min (Maybe quicker) and then all I saw for ages was shadow cat, shadow cat, shadow cat, nova, shadowcat, Nova, nova, shadow cat.. You get the idea. Then I crashed about 6 times (Dx9 SUCKKKKSSS) Loaded up Dx10, and went back to Shadowcat legging in an atlas, which caused quite a few awsome barrel rolls.

Either way gaining almost 500k in 5min in an LT, and I couldn't aim for crap, is a bit silly, but not as silly as them all being in atlas' and MK2 :D

People will always complain about anything that kills them.  In FPS games people complain about snipers, or run and gunners, or 'nade spammers; RTS gamers complain about rushers, turtles, etc.  It's gunna happen in any game when someone who doesn't like to lose, thinks what the other person is doing is ruining the game because they don't play exactly like them.

You forgot to mention that you shot two teammates in one salvo from green to dark red with your longtom and that probably one of those victims told you to go back to Counterstrike.

He can't see what hes hit though, and if team mates want to give the enemies nice big hugs when you KNOW your team has an LT. Then you kinda deserve to die.
