Official Server Issues.
« on: March 23, 2010, 03:19:31 AM »
Lower the player max limit or do something.

I had a game where mechs would warp everywhere, couldn't hit them at all.  Very frustrating.  Also would die spontaneously with no mechs around at all (lag bug where you arent moving on their screen).

Very frustrating.

I hate Aircraft in this game, if I die from one, I leave.  I wish I could just fire back at them from a Mech.

yep, watched top player, wavaging wombat s ping go from 70 to over 400 several times and just general ugly. Same issues last night too, but didnt realize was an "official" server till just now.
pings over 200 are a major issue it seems.

They need to auto kick anyone over 200 ping like some servers do.

I think you will find that most issues with player lag have very little to do with the server and much more to do with the clients.

Oh man Redvan, that made me laugh.  I can honestly say I've played for at least 3 hrs on the server.  Why does it say zero....
Aw, I was hoping my score/min would be INFINITE, but it's zero too, which makes even less sense....

Anywho, I'd suggest slightly reducing player count and autokicking high-ping players as well, as some of the full matches I've played have been absolutely messy.  Maybe make the structure overall similar to the TLL servers?
Played MWLL for Guillermo del Toro.

When reporting issues we need a little more information:

1) Amount of players
2) Ping of you and other players (was it you with high ping or everyone on the server)
3) Warpyness of vehicles
4) Hit detection
5) Are missiles removed on impact or does it take a bit

These will help to find out if we are hitting a server limit or engine limit.

Cheers,

How should we be measuring "warpyness"? Is that a technical term? :P

It is! It describes the likeliness for a vehicle to warp from point a to point be at a given time t. The more often this appears to happen the higher the warpyness! :D

Indeed - it is measured in graph form, from (x = 1) to (zn+1 = znP + c) :D

(+10 points if you get that one)

I was running a 60ping which is higher than what i usually run. avg around 20 on tll n boss. The warpiness was the worst ive seen. As a BA put 3 cycles of weapons into a mech that wasnt there.
it seemed as if everyone was a lil high with their ping, but some players went way off the chart.

That is to expected depending on the routing for each client. I am more thinking of "we were all in regular ping areas of 50 - 150" or a "everyone on the list reached a ping of 500 at the same time". If single clients have high pings then they should move closer to the server ;) If it's everybody then the servers pipe is used up.

50 ping.

I quit the server when I tried, unsuccessfully, to hit a shadowcat who was within maybe 50 meters of me.

I would line up, pull the trigger, then he would disappear and would be behind me.

Then i would explode, even though I had no visible damage before exploding.

I had been having trouble hitting people all night with heavy gaus because of warping, but when it became impossible to hit people at a few meters that's when it was out of hand.

I think people with greater than 200 ping should be auto kicked, and the server size reduced to 24, this seems to be manageable on other servers (such as TLL, Fed Suns).

EDIT: No I am not a Euro, I live in the midwest US.

Keep in mind, folks, that this server is likely to be a major testbed for the mod with logging and anything else they might feel inclined to do.  So even if there are problems, keep playing, and they'll likely have a much higher rate of resolution than any other server.

Also, keep reporting badness.
Thanks for the view.

In other severs, I find if ONE PERSON has a crappy ping (200+) then everyones ping tends to go up a bit, and everyone gets nasty nasty lag. It really does only take one douche to ruin it for everyone.

Ping filters on servers should be a must. Not on all servers, but most.
