BA Claw Countermeasures
« on: March 24, 2010, 04:20:58 PM »
I know all the BA fans are looking very forward to "THE CLAW!".  Being someone whose BA interactions mostly consist of melting them, using it to get back to base to get a new mech, or trying to kill someone in a reckless manner before I get killed so I can get another mech, I am looking forward to methods of denying any sweet claw action.  So, if a BA can stick to your mech, what countermeasures will be available?  You can't say "rely on friends", because that involves them shooting your mech.  So what sort of ways will we have to remove a BA from our mechs?  IMO Jumpjets should break the connection from the violent force, maybe other/all mechs could have a sort of electrical burst that paralyzes any BA touching your mech and causes them to disconnect?

Either way, we need something to keep those BAs on their backs.

I am going to rub my Mech in oil so the buggers can't catch hold.

(And set myself alight if one does latch on.)

Damn BA.  Damn them to hell!

What have we done to you to deserve this?  :(

purchasable BA-pods as an optional alternative to taking a ton of ammo

Wherever mechs are needed, I am there

Ya not sure what form these would take but maybe an electric shock would be nice.  Something with a kick that would send the BA flying like a full jetpack release on extremity.

Jumping, scraping your mech against obstacles like trees and buildings, and long drops (like running off a cliff) should jar the BA off, and screw with his vision so he can't just claw right back on.

fyi, oil isn't gunna help you one bit cause the claw's a sharpened tool that pierces into the mech armor and then clamps down on it.  An electrical shock makes no sense for several reasons, mostly having to do with certain materials being insulators.  It's a little early yet to think of things beyond the pods Flyingdebris talked about, they're also the only way I've ever heard of a mech getting a BA off without help.

Have the claw soak up jump jet energy while latched on.
Thanks for the view.

Use AMS to kill BA claw (but claw alone)  8)

:P

But now seriously - the best anti BA weapon will be...
teammate.

Regardless, it should not be difficult to remove a BA from your mech.  They're already in a good spot IMO regarding usefulness.  I've killed light mechs with a BA, but face a quick death if they know where you are and have the skill/knowledge to dispatch you.  They are weak and fragile, yet moderately useful, exactly where I think they belong.  It should never be reasonable for an equally skilled BA to have a CHANCE of killing a mech solo, regardless of equipment.  I fear the claw will make BA's annoying fleas of death that require someone to spray a friendly mech with fire in order to remove, and that, I believe, is the worst option.

just remember BA high damage weapons usually have a splash damage radius that wouldn't allow a BA to just sit there clawed on and plink away at you with a MP PPC or SRMs.

using coolant (at leist 20%) should gunk up their claw, and the claw should have recharge so it cant be spammed, same regen as the small laser would be fair
I agree that money doesn't bring happiness, all I ask is a chance to prove it.

Exactly.  I've hopped on tanks/mechs and had them orange/red before they realized what was happening, it's not that hard already if they're a bad player.
