More Narcs please
« on: March 25, 2010, 11:01:03 AM »
Request for next update

More Narcs please.

We currently have only 2 light mechs that can Narc and both have no room for extra ammo so are limited to 4 rounds of each which with a bit of bad luck with hit detection is more like 2-3.

would be nice to have more options or at least a mech or veh that is a designated Narc unit that has enough ammo to narc consitently for long stretches.

Cheers

I would already be happy if people started to use the NARCs I place  ::)

There I am... risking my little life to attach a NARC-nade to some enemy mech because I know me peeps are running around in LRM units like those were the only choice and then noone even fires a missile at my target...  :'(

Same with TAG...

Many LRMers consider NARC/Tag unreliable. They rather lock when they have the chance.
And indeed. You never know when a NARC might disappear. A lock stays locked until the LRMs impact. And I think we all know the BAs that tag for like 3 seconds and then abandon it to chase after some mechs.

well thats the thing if narc'ers had a proper supply of narcs they can keep throwing them out and ensure a consistent lock and when they get used more often people are more inclinded to utilise them.

also LT's can use a narcs to aim

Be sure to coordinate with your LRMers as a NARCer, know who has LRM's, and where they are in relation to target, if their in range, for either LRM's or ELRM's, place your narc and announce it. Best way to run as a scout is to keep people updated on whats going on through team chat, and let them know what you plan on doing/narcing.

You look pretty silly throwing narcs around without anyone sporting missiles.  ;D

TAGging, especially, really should give rank promotion the way it gives money. Part of the reason it's not done often or done well is because the reward is quite poor - and that's a bad thing, since it's a teamwork tool, and the game, in theory, encourages teamwork.

With a BA holding a steady TAG laser on something - especially if doing it from hiding in brush at 300m, where it won't be detected - you can raise some serious havoc... but right now, the BA is effectively punished for doing so. Far better to lob weapons and get your rank popped up. Even if you were getting 10% of the rank benefit of the damage that the guy lobbing the missiles, you could get some longterm benefit out of it.

NARCs to a lesser degree and TAGs for certain - to encourage their use, improve the reward for using them. :)

Wait, BA tag has a range limit of 300m? Well, that explains a lot  :-[

400, I believe, but definitely much shorter than mech-based TAG. (Though a passive-running Mech using a 1000m TAG could certainly potentially do so quietly, the best things to TAG are usually stationary missile boats, which are rather likely to pick you up for shooting, even if you're running passive.)

It'd be kinda unbalanced if a BA could use the full mech version of TAG with it's 1000m range :p

Very much agreed. As it is, it's quite easy to BA-TAG someone stationary and have them never know why the missiles keep rushing in at them. Problem is you get money for that, but no rank - and without rank, money will eventually run out. Not sure if you get points for the team that way or not, but I'd assume no rank means no points.

What I'd love to see is a brawler Mech with Narc and C3. (no brawlers with C3 ATM what's quite silly in my opinion - who need C3 on LRM mech?! lol) - even if it's weapons would be poor - it'd still be a great unit.

For example we cold get replaced the Bushwacker B to something like:
2 LBX10, 1 SSRM6, NARC
AMS, C3, MASC, GECM, 3 free tons

So... poor, easy to strip firepower, but powerful equipment. :) would be great.
(BTW: It's just random setup, I have no idea if tons count is fine or not)
