Eject Eject Eject!
« on: April 01, 2010, 08:58:07 PM »
I've been playing the beta for several weeks now and have noticed a disturbing trend to eject from a mech when its mostly beat up, obviously this is a natural response to not wanting to die and since the reward for ejecting (becoming a fast Mobile difficult to hit target with infinite ammo and missiles) is great enough, people do it alot.  Now if my lore is correct the mechwarrior universe has always placed a great deal of importance on honor, ejecting from a mech is cowardly and dishonorable rather than dieing in battle, I'd like to see a penalty in the form of points for ejecting.. say 20% of your current rank or more. there needs to be more of an incentive to stay in your mech and fight to the bitter end.

Also adding some play balancing aspects to it could also work, as in isn't it funny how inside a mech you look like a regular pilot, then you eject and POOF magic! your in Battle Armor how nice! Instead of costing points for ejecting from a mech you could also deny pilots the sailormoon style magical change into armor as they fly from the cockpit and just make them regular guys with enviro suits that have to try to make it back to base without jump jets and oversized hand held weapons.  Or attempt to reach an apc where they could perhaps buy some battle armor.  That too would be more of an incentive to stay in your mech and fight to the end.

This is just a personal opinion rarely in the books or games and game movies do you see pilots just ejecting at the first sign of trouble, and even when they do eject they don't have battle armor, even the latest video for mech warrior 5 the guy ejects and doesn't start jumping around harassing the atlas with rockets and handheld ppcs.

I found myself in many situations where my mechs been so badly beat up I was sure to loose, but managed to pull it back from the brink by staying in the mech and putting down consistant accurate fire on their CT. Just happened today vs a nova cat, got away from him with 1% RT and 4% CT, managed to get back to main and repair, killing a BA along the way, with no issues.

Personally I find people eject too often and too early. I only eject when im sure i'm going to kill an enemy mech in my BA, but mainly with the intention of getting back to base alive. Even though i've done alot of dedicated BA work in the past, I dont take any extra BA equipment when I go out in a mech, because I think its cheap to loose a fight in a mech but then win in a BA just because you came geared up to the teeth with equipment. I think alot of people think theyre alot better in BA than they actually are, and most tend to do nothing more than extend the amount of time it takes them to die, whilst shaving off pathetic amounts of armour around the entire mech their up against.

Overall, less ejecting ppl people, it gets tiresome killing ba's over and over and over again.

been there done that, has 10x thread with things to "fix" the problem.   It just happens, it's one reason why the devs added a delay to the ejection from mech.

A one second eject timer is not a fix, additionally I've found that pure BA's the "infantry" are at no real advantage to me and my mech when I can just as easily power down, jump out and magically be in Battle Armor too, and then immediately kill them with my flamer and get back in my mech and continue on my merry way. Ejecting in the field and gaining insta battle armor with no set backs or disadvantages is broken and does nothing to improve gameplay or add incentive to just be an infantrymen.

That's why the devs should add stripping and refunding all extra BA weapons whenever you went any vehicle! They should also strip the SRM2 backpack, that way you only have a BA Laser, and that is NO threat to a mech/vech.
On the internet, no one can hear you sarcasm.

+1, same here, they taste like roasted chicken

But this also interests me: in a split second we undress from the BA when we get into a Mech, and same when we exit.
How does this happen? Is it like a clamshell that opens when we get in, and clasps us back when we get out?

I'll undress your clamshell.

Thinking about it now, that's probably the most plausible scenario, despite it being unholy amounts of non-canon.

It also explains why I pilot my mech naked.
Yep, clamshell BA.
Not cause it feels good.

I understand canon is that you shapeshift while teleporting to the cockpit right in a matter of milliseconds. That sucks, I'd rather like to become liquid. Now that would be cool. Unless the cockpit has leaks.

(on a side note, I wonder how do you put a Nanosuit on, do you need a companion to zip you up?)

Ba are a joke they are really easy kill if you can aim a little bit. If you can't go back to your xbox you will get auto aim

Troll fail.

Anyway: The problem is that while ejecting is dishonourable and cowardly - that description fits most pubbers perfectly. (See: Endless LRM-camping, jump-sniping, etc etc)

I've already made my points as to why we shouldn't spring free from mechs as fully formed BA - wether they were listened to or considered by the devs I don't know. Point is, there's no need to make them again :P

Or attempt to reach an apc where they could perhaps buy some battle armor.
This.

Makes people buy and hide more APCs and solves the everlasting eject-problem.

lulz, fnck that.
I'm not gonna limp back to base for 30 minutes in a crippled mech to get blasted by an LT or caught by some stray missile camper. I don't eject usually in 1 on 1's because I want to win them, but after the second or third mech starts surrounding me and gang banging me i'm outa there. They get the majority of the points from the mech kill anyways so I would rather go back to base and buy a mech with the points I EARNED not the points I'm magically given for dieing, hows that for honor clanners?
Edit: That said I just got out of a game at marshes where I was in a UAC20 Mauler and repaired 3 times, each time going back with less than 15% HP about everywhere, it was scary but fun! Many of my deaths come from me thinking I'm going to make it in a fight, only when I KNOW its not gonna happen I eject.
