ARMING IS GETTING OUT OF HAND!!!!!!!!
« on: April 02, 2010, 08:05:48 PM »
ARMING is getting out of HAND!!!!!

Just kidding!

Anyway, I really love seeing the increase in competitive play that is happening recently.

Last night I was on a server where I was getting my heavy gaus shot off.

This was awesome, because it shows that even the big hitter mechs have their basic weaknesses.

And it made me realize some important lessons.

Take the thanatos, this mech (when used right) Can take down just about anything... when the two opponents are within say 500 meters of each other and both going for torso shots.

BUT, if you fight a Thanatos and use your first few shots to disarm him, you end up being able to get out of a fight with a single shot being taken by the Thanny with the heavy gaus, and able to destroy him piece meal for maximum effect.

A week ago I started using "arming" as a tactic, as this had been used against me and my friends and caused us to lose a round (shocking!).

It works GREAT, in fact its part of a team strategy now for most mechs for us.  Especially when we have opponents like Snowball running around, we just shooting the lasers off the arms.

I hate Aircraft in this game, if I die from one, I leave.  I wish I could just fire back at them from a Mech.

One leg is worth two arms.

I'm curious as to how to defend against this. Twisting and turning doesn't really help.   I really don't like that an armless mech is irrepairable either.  Let me put it this way.  If you lose an arm on your mech do you repair it?  Drive it back and get another mech? Do you go down fighting? Do you eject and fight as Ba?  I've never seen anyone take an armless mech back for repairs and then back out to fight. Once the sucker is de-armed it becomes a taxi at best.  I suppose turning a ruined mech back in for salvage cash would solve this problem.  Right now a mech with even one arm missing it just worthless for the most part.

depends on the mech, I mean if you lose an arm in the 4x LRM20 vulture, you still have 60 LRM launchers. If you lose one on a Madcat, you still have a decent amount of weaponry left assuming it wasn't the LBX20 variant.

They do need to implement the ability to sell a mech.

But I like the arming thing.

I nearly lost to a partisan with ac5s in a thanatos because of being armed last night.

I've been "arming" for a LONGGG time.  If you can take out the biggest weapon they have, the fight is a lot safer plus you'll end up with overall less damage.

I really miss the possibility to repair mechs in the field, repair arms and legs - or self destruct (yes I know -life cheap, mech expensive- but the mech gets shot to rubbish anyway because you cant salvage them and make easy $). With bigger mechs or mechs with a lot of ammunition a self-destruct should be a final solution to slow down/confuse/damage enemies near you, even if it would be counted as a suicide (its said to be a team game, so I don’t care about personal kills anyway). Especially if we –hopefully soon- get the possibility to choose between SA and another game mode. But if no self-destruct then at least your mech should be fully repaired (replace arms) if you manage to make it back to a mech bay!

I don't mind arming, but I do wish there were something that you could do with armed mechs. Be it purchasing a new arm or turning it in for a portion of your money back.

I'd prefer a possibility to replace destroyed limbs, but for a high price and, maybe, longer repair time. Not that important for SA, but for ToS or any other game mode with a limited resource pool that would be a must.

lol  ;D ;D ;D

I'd be great though it you could replace lost parts in Hangar - all in all after 3 minute trip I would want to have my mech repaired... now it's better to bail out and get back to the base as BA - no point in crawling slowly where after repairs you'd get only half of your mech fixed. o_O

It would be great if repairing destroyed torso parts functioned as it should.  Repairing lost limbs would be icing on the cake.

If the torso is destroyed it is not repaired. Hardly something that can be done in field repairs ;)

Ah, I just remember that being mentioned from the first patch, so I assumed when I wasn't getting my torso fixed, it was a bug.

Though, I've gotta say that's pretty harsh.  With the way that the higher-end weapons dominate the field, armor gets torn up fairly quickly.  So, even if I do survive such an encounter, I can't even get a patch over the great, big gaping hole in the side of my mech.

I mean, it's not that the torso is destroyed, right?  It's that the armor is torn away.
Thanks for the view.
