yea, some way to "keep height" would be great
Still the VTOL is Flying Coffin because Hawkmoth is light, recon unit, not the gunship. Gunships will come... some day.
Oh, and the AC5 is overpowered making Hawkmoth life even more difficult - one can be killed before even have a chance of hiding. You couldn't kill the Crysis VTOL in 5 seconds - but you can kill Hawkmoth...
Actually you could kill the Crysis VTOL in under 5 seconds, Konka did it to me a few times in the AAA tank in one game I remember well. And Crysis VTOL is not a good example, as it is the most OP and noobish vehicle in that game IMHO.
Anyone remember Longbow Gold? If you crested a hill to find a 2S6 on the other side at under 2.5K you were dead 2 seconds after the turret turned to face you. If you were over 30m off the ground in your apache you were soon to be dead, so you NoE'd to target area at under 30m, and popped up to attack with your missiles or rockets etc. IMHO this is how VTOLs should operate.
There's a reason that Light Recon 'mechs exist...they last longer in the field than VTOLs. Period. VTOLs in CBT can be taken down by a small laser or couple of mgun rounds to the rotor, regardless of their tonnage & armour, they're inherently suicidal, disposable, and often one-shot troops...much like they now are in MWLL.
I think a LOT of people coming from Crysis expect the VTOL to be the uber unit of death, like they were in MWLL 0.1, I think the balance is now a little in the AC5s favour, but not that much....at least we no longer see the VTOL pilots going 10-1 K/D ratios by merely hovering 1000m and circling above the targets without fear of AAA (who could barely scratch the VTOL). Nowadays if I see a VTOL pilot going 10-1 on score I know that pilot has some serious skills.
I agree that an auto-hover would be of benefit to the VTOLs.
