The legging topic has reached 17 pages, and for last few days there haven't been any new ideas, so I've read through all the ideas geven and to sum the things up I'd like to present:
The Pool Poll: Legging is out of hand

  • Pick the vote of your choice. Pool Poll closes in 10 days.
  • Ideas marked with * (stars) are more difficult to do and require lot of time to be created.
  • Limp means you can still move, although very slowly (10kph?), with the limping animation (visible currently when leg armor goes to deep red color)
  • (I removed all propositions involving complex animations as these don't have any chances for being realized. Example of such idea would be a Mech to fall down and than stand up (CBT), which might be not possible at all to be created because of complexity level involved in different animations for different cases)
  • If you have new ideas - post them in legging topic, not here!


This is made for devs to hear what players think is the best. It doesn't mean that they will change anything or pick the option selected by us in this pool. So don't count for too much ;) Though devs read the forums so perhaps they will take it into consideration :)

Is it too late to ask if we can vote for more than one idea (I have no idea how poll settings work)?  Reason for this is if people would be fine with either 1 of several ideas, or a combination of several ideas.

 I pick 2 hitboxes, front and rear. I also consider knee component variant very promising, though choosing armor value for knee and it's size would be decisive, as this two variables could have tremendous impact on legging balance. The combination of multihitbox leg with knee component could also be interesting and, perhaps, most accurate leg damage mechanic, but this would be a lots of work and a hell to balance.

Yea... I'm worried that in this scenario we'll have knee with less armor (what's entirely realistic), meaning single alpha-strike in the sweet spot would mean instant legging. Also this way you will make LBXes and all weapons with splash damage way better for legging than anything else.

That's aside from the fact that it'll require more work than most of other solutions.

i like the knee sweet spot namely cause i proposed it :D

I mean yeah it'd probably result in an instant legging if you manage to nail it with some overkill fiahpowah,  but a mech knee is smaller than most cockpits, and most cockpits aren't exactly swinging like a pendulum.

If possible, might be a good idea to make it immune to splash, but be subject to receive a small fraction of the damage the leg takes so that pumping enough firepower into misc leg will eventually pop the knee, whether you are aiming for the knee or not.   Direct hits though should screw it up bad a lot faster.

Option 3 tentatively, but I would also like the 1 legged mech to have difficulties turning.

Chose 3, too.

I mean it's the closest to the way MWLL interprets (directly or because of engine limitations) CBT rules.
In CBT you must make a pilot roll or fall down like:
you fire a Heavy Gauss while moving.
you lose a Leg (i think even sooner... actuator hit ?).
etc....

In MWLL you never fall. Thats why the Heavy Gauss is a bit overpowered... because it could need the risk to make the mech fall over if fired (or explode in a really nasty way if destroyed). But back to legging.

So I assume that anything in CBT that requires a pilot skill roll can be considered a successful roll in MWLL (most likely since standing up is really annoying to implement).

So lose a leg.. stay upright.. and merely hop around (read: limp).
Loose the second leg. Down to the ground.

Yeah, I went with Option 3 too, because it's the closest to canon without screwing up the gameplay, in my view.

 As much as I eager for more complex solution, I think this is acceptable compromise, canon- and gameplay-wise.

i went with the 1 leg 0 armor limp, both 0 fall down...

I'd prefer the multiple hit box/leg, but I think that may be too complex.

For fun, when this gets implemented, I'm going to leg both of Sky_Walkers mech-legs and leave him there.
Edit: Does this Pool include a bar? Why isn't it a Poll? Drink please!
