Who here LOVes cockpitting Light mechs W/ their HGauss???

Great shot man!!!!   By the way

YOU SUCK.

I just think there should be some kind of mechanic that limits one shotting, maybe if your cockpit is at 100% it can never go below 1% due to one shot from some one, maybe same for legs, but i'm pretty sure it takes at least 2 shots, from an HGauss to leg anything.

I really,  times a thousand, love the Owens B. But after my first encounter with someone in it, they know i'm gonna tear 'em up a bit, so they just get an Hollander II A and go for the cockpit or the leg, many times it was really cheap. The HGauss should also  have it's Jump jets reduced or removed, i've been popped in some of the most ridiculous situations, where my speed and mobility should have let me have some advantage over a one shot wonder medium, or at least  get one salvo of Srm's into them.

So, in conclusion i think we need some code written to make any section or component, free from the one shot wonders out there.
If its green and is hit by anything only once, it only goes down to 1%.
If you pop me with two, well I guess you are a good shot.

Have fun out there kids!!  But don't ruin it for the rest of us.

I suck!! But WE are AWESOME.  We started a unit.  What's that?!  YOU WANNA TOUCH MY UNIT?!! :P ^^12thVR Recruitment Page(clickthepic) ;)

Hey Cat,
What i think about legging and people that do it with intend is not to be published.
The other thing - the heading: Sorry to say that - but you're wrong. You may see MW:LL as a game, that stands alone. But you have to consider, that it has a huge, 25 year old universe behind it. Its roots go back to a time, when duels had to be fought with miniatures on a map, a pen, a record-sheet and two d6 (<sigh> ...those were the days...   ;))
If you take Battletech back to its basics - the tabletop - and read the rules, study the damage- and armor-diagrams so you will see, that the Devs already did sth to limit one shot kills in the mod.
An Example: In the original game the Clan-ER-PPC and the Gauss (the normal(!) not the heavy version) each cause  a damage of 15. According Mech-Creating-Rules in the tabletop-version armor and internals on and in a head can never be be more than 12. So One-Shot-Kills were possible then - but very rare. (You had to roll 2d6 to hit and then again a 12 to determin the head as hit location - but that's another story...
My experience is, that you can not decapitate a mech in MW:LL with one shot of a Clan-ER-PPC or a standard Gauss (or am i wrong here?).
The fact, that a well aimed Heavy Gauss-projectile  of a Thanathos or a Hollander can rip of a mechs head or leg is alright with me. That's the game. And hitting sth that's as fast as a osiris or an owens in full run to the head with such a slow weapon ought to be rewarded somehow. my opinion.
It's Battletech - not Logitech

Uhhh, I played tabletop, and if i'm not mistaken this isn't a table top game with a set of rules that includes randomness.
My point was to increase general enjoyment of game play with a simple mechanic that reduces the likely hood of being one shotted in a real time environment.

And if i was on a full run and someone hits my cockpit with an Hgauss, i would applaud my opponent, but i have yet to have that happen.

I suck!! But WE are AWESOME.  We started a unit.  What's that?!  YOU WANNA TOUCH MY UNIT?!! :P ^^12thVR Recruitment Page(clickthepic) ;)

Well. "general enjoyment". I see you might have a point here.
But realism is anotherone you might admit. I see it this way: In most enviroments - in the real world for example - being one shottet in a battle is quite possible (and horrible since war is nothing enjoyable at all).
For me MW:LL is not just a game. It's also a simulation.
It's Battletech - not Logitech

The HGauss round didn't 1 shot your cockpit. It cored your CT. Essentially the same thing.

It only get 4 shots per ton, range is limited, damage is huge under 300m, trails off drastically from there. What do you expect people to do?
IT'S THE MOST POWERFUL DIRECT-FIRE GUN IN THE GAME.

Do you complain that sniper headshots are one-shot-kill in regular shooters too?

I don't generally play regular shooters, plus a Mech is a mech, it should promote more drawn out battles than, ohh my head poked up my 30 ton mech is dead!  Cheers for all the fun WE had. bang bang your dead.  Never played a tabletop game that ended that quick, and if i did i would never play it again.

Maybe you should try to be less on a receiving end of HGauss? ;) But joking aside, the toaster.pastries' point is valid:

HGauss is most powerfull weapon mech could haul, it could be easily destroyed on two of three mechs that have it(that is Hollander and Thanatos), it has no splash and long reload time. Frankly, your posts looks like you are trying to say "Damn! I've been one-shotted by most powerful weapon in game while driving weakest mech and it's totally unfair! Something should be done with it!". Love piloting lights? Choose your targets wisely and don't engage alone. Want to combat HGauss-equiped mechs? Outrange or outmaneuver them and concentrate your fire on HGauss itself. And never charge head on to HGauss, regardless of what you piloting.

In 3025 that was certainly true, but not in 3075, by this point in the timeline 'mechs are packing so much punch that even assaults can be taken down by one salvo from a lance of heavies.

If they core or leg your SRM Owens, come back at them with the LRM Owens (it's not as much fun though) or avoid those targets and flank them to keep scanning the enemy.  Realise that Brawlers and direct fire jumpers are NOT your targets of choice when your a Scout 'mech, sure get their attention (you've not got ECM so that's pretty easy if everyone else has ECM or is passive) but keep your distance, know your target and use cover if you want to get close (speed will NOT save you, it just gives you options for attacks/retreat), because one laser or gauss (standard) salvo at 800-900m can end you (I loved one-shotting clan lights with Gauss Demolisher and watching them ragdoll).

Only use hit'n'run tactics on targets like Hollanders and Thanatos AFTER your main battleline has engaged and those targets have other concerns; and even then don't push it, get in and out fast, rinse and repeat.  If the JumpLamers are Cougars and Catapults then by all means get stuck in with your SRMs, if they're packing Gauss or Large Lasers, don't!

I am against a MW4 style of avoiding one-shots (in MW4 one shots were almost totally impossible due to a mechanic similar to what you suggest and it ruined immersion for me and cheated anyone good enough to catch my cockpit at 165kph); getting shot out of the saddle is one of the hazards of running recon 'mechs, and as much as I LOVE the Owens (it's my favourite 'mech in MWLL) I wouldn't have things any other way...it'd reduce the adrenalin rush of being the plucky underdog that uses superior tactics to stay alive.

something.......
alf alpha cat,i dont think anyone agrees with you, stop whining

a heavy gauss is extreemly hard to use, has limited ammo , is very weak to be shot off mechs , takes up alot of space, and generally has alot of down sides.
if someone chooses to use it, and is good enough to get a head shot on a 100kmph+ mech they deserve everything they get,

the projectile moves slow enough that you can toros twist to evade head and ct shots, and loses damage over range so after 500m it wont really do that to you.

so what i ask is why are you running in a stright line towards a heavy gauss mech in a light with no transversal, thats just gonna get you killed no matter what weapon they use.

although i dont think your worth any time at all, heres some friendly advice in the form of a picture i made

Most powerful direct-fire weapon in the game.
+
Weakest, most vulnerable target in the game. (Specifically light mech /cockpits/)
