huxley isn't exactly a good example. that game was supposed to have come out at the beginning of the "next gen" series of games. i.e. years ago.
and the last time i saw video of it, it looked like shit.
I am against the an MMO treatment of BT namely for the reason that MMOs would dilute a BT experience rather than add to it. The reason for this is that simply put, making the mechwarrior multiplay portion of the game is a full on game project in and of itself. Now start adding in support for hundreds of people on a server, now you gotta start dropping system requirements to make sure it still runs smooth with that many people. You then have to start balancing every piece of weapon and equipment to work in an environment that can at any moment become overrun with players. Then you have to add some kind of narrative or campaign structure, a market, a leveling system which will necessitate further balancing between high and low level players, then there are the massive amount of areas that would need to be modeled and textured, then there are all the characters you'd be interacting with than need voice acting and art support for. thousands of hours of quality assurance, testing, and bug crunching. Then you'd need to handle server maintenance, which is a nightmare in and of itself.
and in the end what you get is a game who's actual mechwarrior component is some low rez laggy mess that resembles nothing close to BT cause you've had to make so many concessions to the fact that the game is an mmo, "but hey look my half naked pilot chick can dance by her madcat while i look for a group to raid the dracs!" Forget about the complaints that exist right now about how tanks and aircraft and BA balance out vs mechs, imagine what sort of shit you'll see after mixing in leveling, rare equipment, and combat with players featuring mmo "pro gamer" mentality (protip, they'd make mw4 minmaxing poptarters look like a joke).
Meanwhile had you made a game the purely concentrated on balanced standard scale combat and getting the immersive feel just right, and ignored 90% of everything not specifically related to achieving that goal, you'd end up with a fapp awesome game that would actually play good.
