I'm not quite satisfied with the answer for VTOL hovering. I may have missed out on this "proof" before 1.0 came around. Standing still is something I do with vehicles, mechs and as a BA, which have their own risk/reward. I don't see how it would be much different. Nose down hover sniping isn't what I had in mind either, but it sounds cool in a broken kind of way.
Apologies for not interpreting your question quite right.
You *can* achieve a relatively stable hover in VTOLs with 0.2.0, but it's a tricky combination of set throttle (K) and setting your pitch perfectly.
We have discussed adding a control that would allow setting of a flat hover, but it's tricky because our maps have variable gravity, air densities, etc. Also: Crysis hates things that fly.
I personally fly Hawkmoths
ALOT and haven't ever found myself with a desire to have flat hover from a tactical standpoint. Usually I'm nose-down circle strafing on a target or whipping the horses to actually
get somewhere (or get away from something) quickly. A flat hover might be useful for holding station for observational purposes, but a slow, high-altitude cruise of an enemy position works just as well.
