Poll - The success of MW:LL

I hope that MW:LL is a success, but I think that there are a lot of issues to be addressed before this Mod will appeal to a larger audience.

Quality over quantity. Don't follow Modern Warfare 2 down the path to the dark side.
Besides, if you build it, they will come.

I know! I know! I mixed my movie metaphors but yall get the point.  :P

It's already been voted as one of the best mods of all time.

Also its distributed by fileplanet.

Plus its one of the first proper mods in the highly recognised crysis engine.

I fail to see how this mod isn't a success already? unless you want to gauge it on a business level, and considering this mod is free to play, that would be rather pointless.

Felt like I was playing a numbers guessing game...

I think my vote was also more of just what I thought the MWLL player pop. would look like after full release..

Though for it to be considered a success..?

More spectacular actiony-advertising like This one

...

...

Ok maybe that's just me being selfish...shiny footage just makes me melt~<3

But seriously :o I think that some great in-game captured clips that showcases some battle scenes would drive fans wild - staged scenes that resemble memorable scenarios to highlights from the series could really score some nostalgia points ;p

Regardless of what the Mod has earned so far, if only a handful are playing it one year after it is out of Beta, I could not consider it a "success".

The point of any software developement is to provide something of use to your customers.
You gauge your success by how many use it for extended periods of time, not by how many have "tried" it for a short period of time.

Unless, a Dev is only looking for something to put on their resume, that is...   ;)

Player pop. size is all advertising.

But besides that, it's really a per user choice as too the success of a free mod.   To me, this mod is already extremely successful it's beautiful, opens up aspects of play never before seen in the MW series, and has made it so far with so much backing from the public websites.  The only time player bases will concern me is when I have trouble finding enough to play with, and at the moment that isn't a concern (but doesn't determine success in my eyes... these guys (gals?) created and continue to develop an amazing mod which is success enough in my eyes).

IMO, success for MWLL is not 1000+ casual players 1 year after release, but ~100 loyal players 6 years after release.

Not this.

That said, I think this mod still has an uphill fight ahead of it solely because it is a crysis mod.

Do people really want to see this mod swarmed with thousands of players who don't give a damn about the setting, lore, goals, and history of the game?

Well sorry to break it to you guys, but this type of game is NOT popular. Most people dont like stomping around in giant robots that move the speed of tanks and turn slower. Most people want to run around pretending to be a soldier, who doesnt suffer from fatigue, can drive any vehicle they want, can shoot artillery with no training using a very simple control scheme, can melee someone to death in one hit, and can just generally do as many things in a pseudo realistic way as possible.

This game needs to be successful with the battletech community, it needs to pull people over from the now dated and overplayed Mw4 into a fresh 2010 era game.

If you want it to attract the masses, then there's going to have to be some major fundamental changes to it to make it appeal.

My gauge of success is its recognition (which it already has to some degree) and its appeal to the community its aimed towards. I am disappointed it doesnt have as large a player base as I would expect from a recently released MW game, but then again I think alot of MW players have far too high expectations for anything set in the battletech universe. The way I look at it, we should be glad of what we get, because this franchise could easily have been dead and buried many times over.

Seconded. I hate it when threads try to take the temperature of a work in progress.  I boycotted the vote.

Truthfully I lean alongside with this.

Additionally -THE- biggest reason I appreciate it has been those choices that really make this game a closer authentic representation of what the whole universe revolves around. Heck to be honest I just want to experience more and more of what the battle tech universe has and not just showy special effects or meaningless fabricated reasons so that players can shoot stuff. I'll be honest that i probably won't go out and actually read any of the books and such (that's just cause im not much of an enthusiastic reader, not because it doesn't interest me) And the more that I can experience via the games will make it that much more enjoyable.
