"auto eject...please stay online"
« on: May 11, 2010, 12:05:02 AM »
Well, a little idea i got while talking about noobs like me in mwll:

What about an autoeject function with the opportunity to overide it? I think it would be a nice feature.

the best tip I can give is to remap the enter/eject key, since the default "f" is just too close to many commonly used controls.  Personally I mapped override shutdown to "f" then put enter/eject to left alt key.  Then you more or less won't accidentally hit the eject button when you don't mean to.

Aren't it already overridable?

Hehe, we ALL know the real reason for this request....

I suspect the OP, like me and many others occassionally hits F by mistake when attempting to turn right!  ::) :-[

It happens occasionally to humourous effect even for the leet players out there (although I'm not sure how many will admit to it  ;D ).  Remapping it definitely the best approach to avoiding it, but it would be cool if F=eject after 2 sceonds, F again = cancel ejection if pressed in time; just to be more newby friendly (remapping is an intermediate skill).

yea... remapping ejection key is the way to go. say.... shift+F or shift + e (Eject) - whatever but not F. It happens even for me to eject occasionally (mostly when I eat something and press F by accident instead of D - lucky it never happen for me during the combat, but did several times on the way to battlezone)

I didn't think it was possible to map a shift modifier, pretty sure its not (otherwise i need to update the Actionmapper :P)

I've ejected at the worst times recently.  I place the blame squarely on the MW4 cause i've been playing the mektek release.  The "f" key in that game is flush coolant.  So when i switch back to MWLL i'm in a heated fight going for some coolant when suddenly i'm in the air!

Actually the OP is a new guy that has a hard time knowing when to eject and most of the time waits too long and gets killed in his mech.

Yepp, thats one big point ;) Another one was me thinking about some videos where you here this sweet voice telling "eject, eject, eject..." and i thought: Hey, would be cool to hear that, gives athmosphere.

But thinking about it, yes, it isn't nessesary. But perhaps we could build in this voice sample? Just for the athmosphere when your mech is getting shot into pieces? This would help newbies like me to realize "damn you fool, this battle is over. Move your ass out here or run away if you can" and it also would give you yet more feeling like sitting in a giant machine.

There are two camps on the board, one that absolutely does not eject cause they view it as cowardness and the other is the "i'll survive at any cost"

Also, sound assets are at a premium right now, there's so many sound effect going on that crysis actually doesn't play all of them.

oh, i didn't know about the sound problems. I have just read about crysis using fmod. As a sounddesigner myself working on DragonAge right know (only mods, not the official bioware team) i know about having trouble with it or a game engine, which is a little...lets say unhandy.

Ok, so just forget my eject idea, its nothing i couldn't live without.

Ejecting in battle armor is BS, plainly put.  If I go through all the trouble it takes to kill an Atlas, I should be rewarded with a kill, not an annoying Longinus that is intent on pestering me until I splatter him with yet another of my gauss slugs or flatten him under my tank.  The incessant ejecting is beginning to kill the rewarding feeling I used to get when taking out an enemy machine, and is cheapening the entire feel of the game.

Battle armor inside mechs, vehicles, etc. is already really stupid, but if an auto-eject system is implemented, it would become absolutely necessary to stop encasing the mech jocks, aero pilots, and tankers in battle armor.

Yeah, true. I, personally, swapped "ejection" and "throw C8" buttons, so that I enter/eject mech with G and throw charges with F. Works better than default mapping for both functions.

I KNOW! LOL

HAHHA I HAVE YOUR THANATOS ARM GONE! (WTF I JUST EJECTED?)
I hate Aircraft in this game, if I die from one, I leave.  I wish I could just fire back at them from a Mech.

I remapped eject to the backspace button ages ago.   Way less battlefield embarassment that way :)
