1st post, new to the MW world
« on: May 19, 2010, 04:18:15 PM »
I am a simpit builder and I have some basic questions before I undertake this endeavor, and have done some searching through these forums, so feel free to help or frag me...If I ask the same questions that have been asked by a million others please forgive me and help by providing a link or provide some keywords to help in my search and you may gain another pilot. If you choose to frag me then I will get the idea of what the comunity is like and the pilot #'s well... enough said.

answers to my origanal post in green

#1. is there a descent getting started guide?
from what I gather buy a copy of crysis (  install a vanilla copy and download the MWLL MOD from there it's a bit vague about patches, logging into servers, crashes...( does it matter what version of crysis you buy Crysis2, Crysis warhead or Crysis world in Crysis Maximum Edition?)

YES ....http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/forum/index.php/topic,6048.0.html, Get the Crysis Maximum Edition you only need the original Crysis but the ME has all of the crysis engines and you will not need to buy others as the expansion happens

#2. Is there enough pilots playing to validate the frustrations I have read about?

YES

#3. can the MWLL be ran at 3840X1024 resolution TH2Go?

YES

#4. track IR?

NO

#5. joystick compatibility and ease of set up (I know it can be done but is it a major pain to accomplish)
as far as a "major pain"... unanswered in this thread but there are guides

Can't say much about 2-5, but for 1: i'm using Crysis with newest patch and it works for me.
Mwll version for warhead isnt out yet and better dont ask me when it's gonna release, but they
said they're going to port it to warhead too... in the future...
gotta come up with a better sig first

what issues did you have in getting started if any? I'm assuming you used the 1st version of crysis and not any of the ones I listed above

There are pretty good guides around here somewhere listed as stickies on doing clean installs.  The search function works well just make sure you use it at the highest forum index so it searchs all the sub-forums.

Try this.

Hello, and welcome to the forum, Hotwire!

First of all, there's MWLL Wiki with lots of useful articles(link to some guides are posted on it's front page) as well as default keymap. Second, read the Pro tips thread, some advices there are very useful. As for crysis version, you must have  Crysis(not 2 or warhead) patched to version 1.21 before installing MWLL. And I recomment installing CCC after that to improve performance and overall image quality.

I'm not sure what you meant by second question, but if it was concern about number of players, I assure you there are 2-3 populate servers every day.

MWLL can be launched in exotic resolutions, and some people here are already using 2 or 3 monitor setup to play. Read through this threads to find out more:
http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/forum/index.php/topic,7546.0.html
http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/forum/index.php/topic,5963.0.html
http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/forum/index.php/topic,8264.0.html

Currently MWLL does not support IR tracking, and no plans of it's support where stated by devs. There could be some 3rd party crysis plugins, made for the purpose of IR tracking , but I'm not aware of that.

There are many threads on this forum about joystick set up, try to search them if you have some exotic hardware(judging by photos you have; Nice cockpit, BTW), but as main tool of controls customization, I recomment CapperDeluxe's Actionmapper. It's easy to use and can automate most operations with actionmaps.xml.

 Hope this would help.

Thanks Siilk !!!! I see how you got your callsign...you Sir are as smooth as it gets 8)

As for those who like the sim ( thank you) but for your GF's it only gets worse once you are married so do it now! I simply explained to the wife its a hobby and if she didn't like that one, I could always take up drinking and running around with the friends....She don't like the SIM but considering the alternative shes OK with it ...KINDA  >:(

For those of you who bag on me for it  :'( ENVY is rough, and no it don't make me a better pilot but I die in STYLE  8)

Oh god. I now want to see a super dramatic and serious video with dramatic music of someone playing the Sims using a simpit. Said person must also be wearing aviator sunglasses and a pilot's helmit with mask
