Wikipedia says the complete Aquanox series was developed by massive development, with publishers being blue byte, Fishtank Interactive and JoWood Productions . .

A stream of watered-down, but popular Mechwarrior titles is better than a single, unsuccessful release, with our franchise falling into obscurity once more - keep in mind that popularity introduces the possibility of spinoffs. Also, Jordan Weisman's personally behind this one...

Though I agree that I do not want my favorite (and only game that I actually follow) game and universe to fall into obscurity I will say that having it become something completely different is not the answer. If it falls too far from what it originally was I will stop following the new incarnarations and stay in my "basement" with my other BTU buddies and make our own shit.

Also Jordan Weisman being behind this is not nessecarily a good thing. YES he was part of the two original creators of FASA, but he was mostly the business end, he was the kind of guy that supported all the stupid shit "like Victor" just to drum up fan boi's. Now yes this is sound from the business stand point but it pisses people like me off. So yes he was around at BTU's inception but he was not the creative engine for it, that was Babcock and other talented writers and BT staff.

If this comes to fruition and as of now that is a real big IF, even with Bryan Ekmans blog, I really hope that they do not screw MW Redux up and Nerf the hell out of it and then make it only for console.
I have been a fan/purchaser/player since the very beginning and as I am here associated with MWLL as a player I really want the best for the franchise. If anyone here has any contact with the MW5 team please let them know there are a lot of us still here after all these years and please do not throw us out or our money during development. Not everybody wants to blow their cash on consoles when it is more cost effective for us to just upgrade our PCs to handle new software not to have to blow 500-600 bucks every two years for a new BS console with the Ring of Death. It great for MS but not for the consumer and fanbase.

I real fear I have with most games these days is that it'll be built for consoles and just ported poorly to PC.

The sim/shooter aspect of the MechWarrior games does not belong on consoles.  Period.

How do you plan on combining 50 different functions to a controller with maybe 10?  Eliminate functions?  Yeah, that's a good route to ensure the success of the series.

I have a bad feeling if this game is developed primarily for a console, it will merely be a first person version of MechAssault.

Development! Thanks for the link.

The last MW-related post was December 7th last year, but that ain't so bad. Keep in mind the Duke Nukem release is gearing up.
Be sure to comment on his MW posts - quite a few of them imply that he's inquiring about what Mechwarrior means to its fans.

One word: Oblivion  >:(
(Also known as: "The Elder Scrolls IV")

While I agree with your general point; I'd like to say that
a) It is possible to add some menu-overlay. Basically while you hold, say, the left shoulder-button, your digi-pad controls a menu where you can select a myriad of functions. In fact Crysis used a similar function for "maximum power/speed" etc.

b) Steel Battallion. 'nuff said.

/Atlessa - Never owned an X-Box, so doesn't know whether or not "Steel Battalion" was a good game.

I dunno, I remember at the time it came out that Oblivion was still an incredible game. Sure there were a few consolized bits, like the inventory management and only 8 hot keys for items, but hey at least they let people mod it to make it more of a PC experience :)

Also for those who think its cancelled, check out the attached response from Bryan on his blog :)

Morrowind was 50 times better than Oblivion, and that's me being a total neckbeard about it.

But i pretty much loathe Oblivion.

I also don't know how to interpret that image really.

Oh. Sorry. 3 hours of sleep really isn't agreeing with me....but anyway.
I was gonna say, I didn't really look into Weisman's contributions to Battletech. My thought process was that he's still someone from the original team.

I have high hopes about this Bryan Ekman guy; seeing that he's actually talked about Mechwarrior some on his blog (and, from reading one or two posts, with some idea of what Mechwarrior is like, too - not just "how much do you love giant robots?") gives me the idea that he's got some enthusiasm for this project - even if he can't legally talk about the progress being made on the game and/or most of his audience is MW fans (because the Duke fans haven't found the blog yet, according to one commenter).
