Actual Weapon Max Ranges
« on: June 12, 2010, 03:17:53 AM »
Hey everyone,

I've been playing a reasonable amount, and one thing that keeps bothering me is that I don't know the actual ranges of several guns.  Without knowing the exact numbers, I often find myself getting shot by people i thought were out of range, or having my shots fizzle before they hit my targets.  I checked the wiki, and couldn't really find anything about this.  I also tried a search and didn't find anything.

For example, ERPPCs are listed at 900m, but I can usually hit out to 1100m or so with them.  I looked on the wiki, and it lists some damage dropoff for a couple weapons, but not all of them.  It would be really helpful for me, and maybe other people, if we could get a list of what the hard limits on ranges were.  I'm not really concerned with knowing the exact numbers for damage dropoff, just if there is dropoff or not and what the the hard range limits are (e.g. when the shot fizzles out and stops).  I'll list what I think I know (and don't) below:

Lasers: all have hard limits at their listed ranges (is this right? I noticed the Osiris' ERLBLs fall short...how short?)
PPC: No idea
ERPPC: Around 1100m, i have no idea if there's damage dropoff (?)
Flamers: Listed range

LBX ACs: I have no clue
Normal, Ultra, and Rotary ACs: will follow a ballistic trajectory forever, with dropoff
MGs: same as normal ACs
Ltgauss: somewhere around 1400m with dropoff (?)
CGauss/Gauss: somewhere around 1000m with dropoff (?)
HGauss: 750m or so? this is one of the few guns with its dropoff listed in the wiki, but going by that it would fly out to 1333m, and i know it doesn't do that, and i know it hits farther than 700m
Long Tom: As far as you aim it

SRMs: no idea, i haven't really tried dumbfiring at range
MRMs: no idea, whenever i use them i'm generally close range
LRMs: go as far as you point them
Arrow IV/Tbolt: same as LRM

If anyone who knows this stuff could help me out, I'd appreciate it.  Thanks, and sorry if this is detailed somewhere and I missed it. Oh, also, 0.3.0 about to release ... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH NEED NEW UNDERWEAR

HGauss never hits for me past 700
LRM I can dumbfire out to 1500
Arrow as far as I can see
CERPPC is unpredictable after 1000
none of this matters rightnow because the patch changes everything. This patch is rumored to be right around the corner. I think?

Hopefully after a few weeks of actually seeing their spouses / significant others again, one of the devs will get bored and update all the weapon pages in the Wiki with hard numbers~   8)

Or more importantly... have the weapons more accurate to the stated ranges they should be with little variance from your hud display numbers.   ;D
