Frame Rates Halved in 0.3.0
« on: June 13, 2010, 09:19:37 PM »
Hey Everyone,

Ever since I've installed 0.3.0, my frame rates have about halved, making the game often unplayable in high action fights.  I put the graphics settings down to low, but that didn't noticeably improve performance.  Nothing has changed on my side between 0.2.0 and 0.3.0.  Is there any way I can fix this, and get reasonable performance back?  It's kinda hard to hit a brawler when you're getting under 10fps.

Tech specs on my computer/settings:
Windows Vista 64
1680x1050 resolution, all settings on medium or low
Q6600 at 3.0GHz
Nvidia 8800GTS 512 (e.g. the same generation as the 8800GT, not the older one)
4GB DDR2 RAM

Before I didn't ever drop below 20-30fps, even with lots of shooting, and was usually running much higher than that.  Now I'm lucky to get 30 at most, and often get under 20.  Just a note, I have a 64bit OS but I'm too lazy to install/run the 64bit version of Crysis, would doing this help at all?  Any help is appreciated.

Yes, I'm experiencing the same issue and I have the almost exactly same configuration. :)
Running the 64 bit Crysis might be more stable, but won't result in any significant performance change.

As general advices, I'd recommend you to use Windows 7, which might help you regain some of the performance.
Also make sure that you're not running any programs or processes in the background while playing MWLL that has a heavy load on the CPU.
You might also want to check if there's a newer version for your drivers, especially for the graphics card.

One other thing you could try is using Custom Crysis Configs. It should also get you some extra FPS.

I hope any of these will help. If you find a way to further improve your FPS, please let me know! ;)

I have a similar setup

Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz
8800GT 512 MB
4GB of ram

And i haven't dropped below 20 FPS on all the maps.

Run in 64bit and DX9 mode if you can
Turn off motion blurr.

I found MWLL to run like poo, compaired to other games (but thats to do with Cry Engine not MWLL ;)  ) But I haven't noticed any fps drop in patch, but haven't joined a 20+ filled room yet either.

my framerates have actually seemed to have gotten better. I imagine your issues could have been server related, maybe try picking another server?

@ShdNx:
I'll look at those custom configs ShdNx, thanks for the link.  I'll also get the 64-bit version installed.  Unfortunately I don't have access to a copy of Windows 7, and don't feel like spending a bucket of money on that.  Got the newest drivers about a month ago so I don't think it's that, but I'll check anyway.  Thanks for the advice, and it's good to know it isn't just me.

@SquareSphere:
I'll try removing motion blurr/dx9 mode, thanks.

@sleepysheep
Yea it's not running as well as some of the other games I have, but like I said, it was running at acceptable levels before the patch, so I think something else is going on here.

@CapperDeluxe
I've played on at least 4 different servers, and had the problem on all of them, so I don't think it's server related.  The servers all had pings < 100 as well.

I'll post back if I find something that works, thanks everyone.

i actually felt the FPS got better from 0.2.0...

but try putting an autoexec.cfg file in your crysis folder with this in it:

con_restricted=0
r_MotionBlur=4
e_detail_materials_view_dist_xy=4096
r_TexturesStreaming=0
e_cull_veg_activation=50
e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio=1.5
e_view_dist_ratio_vegetation=45

and see what happens
R.I.P. -43...

-43 karma + +52 karma to get to +17 = 103 total karmas!

100 Karmas achieved 6/24/2010
103 Karmas achieved, 12/29/2010

I tried playing on a 20+ person server, it was horrible. FPS was crap, lag was crap, and game crashes :'( :'(  On the plus side, when it worked game was awsome :D Ping was about 60, always <100 as well.

Yepp, same here. I know i am totaly low end, but before 0.3.0 i could mostly run mwll with all settings to medium. Right now i have about 6-10 fps with most settings to low.

Things i could imagine:

- LRM
with many LRM on the screen the frames drops heavly.

- clearcut
Looks like the trees let the framerate go down to seconds per frame. Absolutly unplayable right now for me.

hah 20+? I'm struggling with 12 people to stay above 10 and then someone else just joins and I fail at even turning.  :o

I thought it might just be me. But it seems alot of people are having FPS trouble.   Like I was playing on Thunder yesterday, there was 5 of us on there for a while and we were all having fun. But then all of a sudden people started flowing in, and my frame rate whent from 40+ to 10. The the Player count got to 15 and I was running 6-7 FPS. Pretty sad if you ask me.

I don't know my PC specs, but It's pretty good stuff. I don't have problems with any game other than Crysis/MWLL.

It's not all the players being in the server, as it is about alot of players being near each other and shooting when i'm looking or near them. Then it dies until my PC catches up. Rince and repeat gets a just bit juddery.

I've also experienced a framerate drop (Win 7 64bit). It is definitely not server-related. In addition to generally lower framerates, sometimes the screen will freeze up completely for 2-4 seconds.

I was having terrible performance in 0.3.0 as well. I deleted my shader cache and all is well again. HUGE difference after doing that.

same, i was used to about 49 fps in 0.2, but now it can drop to as low as 15 under heavy strain.

Id hate to be on the low end of the scale, because it would be paaaainful.
