A Statement on MWLL Future Development Plans
« on: June 14, 2010, 05:16:04 AM »
Hello MWLL Community,

In todays' MWLL team review meeting we set aside some time to discuss our development plans going forward and have felt it would be prudent to share some of those with you, our community.

Crysis Wars Development

The upcoming hotfix 0.3.1 (discussed in this thread) will be the final release on the original Crysis platform.  After the release of the hotfix, all new MWLL feature development will be switched over to the Crysis Wars platform with an expected version release of 0.4.0 under Crysis Wars.  This transition has been in the works for some time now but we did not want to have the possibility of intermingling bugs with a Wars release that contained unreleased content.  We do not have a set release date for the completion of this port, but all of our test builds thus far have been very promising and no overt issues have presented themselves.

As a final note on this topic, we are still discussing the viability of back-porting any critical fixes to the Crysis build after the switch over to Crysis Wars, it will likely depend on the volume of community support that will choose to stay with the original Crysis platform.

Additional Game Modes

Development on the Terrain Control (TC) and Free For All (FFA) game modes has continued via a seperate branch despite them not having been included in 0.3.0  Both of the game modes required additional asset development that was not completed in time to meet our 0.3.0 goals.  Both of these modes will be released shortly after the successful Crysis Wars port, with the possibility of additional unannounced game modes to be included alongside them.  To offset the delay, we will be releasing more details about TC and FFA in the coming weeks to appease appetites for information.

I will attempt to answer the questions that I can should you have any.

Thank you from the MechWarrior: Living Legends team!

Is 0.4.0 going to be as feature packed as 0.3.0, or is it primarily concerned with porting to Crysis Wars?

Version numbers aside, the Wars port will be just that. Only a port. We have no timeline on that at the moment. *AFTER* that will come a content laden patch with the new game modes. The two do not block each other, its simply that we feel its time to move to wars.

Really glad you guys are planning on moving to wars soon. Personally I'd be perfectly happy if you ceased development on vanilla crysis as soon as the wars version is as stable/ feature rich, but perhaps that's just me.

I am very glad to hear this. Even though i don't own Wars at the moment.... but it's a bargain anyways.
And i hope the net-grass is greener on the War side of Crysis :)

How many people do you expect to lose over this? I imagine not too many people have Crysis Wars, unless they bought the Maximum Edition, or bought both games separately.

1.  It is not as though we are springing this idea on the userbase, the intention to move to Wars has been stated pretty much from the time that Wars came out to present.

2. Crysis Wars is not expensive.  It can be found for as little as $15 if you look in the right places or catch sales.  By announcing our intention NOW it gives users plenty of time to shop for an affordable deal.

3.  We are hoping that the userbase will migrate as maintaining parallel codebases for Crysis/Wars development is not something we have the resources (or interest) in doing.  The Crysis version will continue to work and we may possibly back-port any critical bug fixes that are discovered, but all new feature development will be on the Crysis Wars version.

4. Crysis Wars: improved netcode, updated asset path generation, auto-download feature for maps, wider installed userbase.

And S.I. I usually don't call people out, but so critical over this good news?  :-\

I fapping bought crysis for MWLL and then bought wars because of a rumor they would be moving there so if theres alot like me they wont lose out. I seriously havent played crysis wars and only played crysis after i got bored of 0.2.0 haha though i kinda regretted it cause crysis was really fun and awesome.

What are the possible release dates for the game modes and how hard are they to make?
Will there be any content loss between the crysis and wars port?
Will you eventually add every single mech or is their a hard cap on the amount of vehicles added?

Unknown. Right now most difficult part to make are maps, but we are also missing few critical features, so... it's hard to give exact date.

Nope :)

Nope :)

Theres probably a hard cap on their lives :D,

Good news, although I'm not familiar with the benefits of Wars over Vanilla.
