Has fps performance dropped in 0.3?
« on: June 15, 2010, 10:04:03 PM »
I've noticed a performance drop in fps this patch but Im having trouble specifying the cause? I've heard some rumblings from other players but quite a few seem not to notice.  There may be more than one cause. Anyone have ideas? Do the devs think there might be an issue?  I got down to 6fps on Saturday on clearcut with only 18 players  which for me personally trumps all other issues.

My performance has probably been about the same, I think its just some of the new maps are more brawler oriented and therefore performance suffers there probably the same as it did in 0.2

but on an average map, with average number of players its perfect. I was having a great time on the debug server with only about 7 people per team.

I have FINALLY nailed down the reason of 8 constant, nerve-racking 8 fps.

Its the bloody environment effects. Frostbite is IMPOSSIBLE to play, as is marshes with all the bleeding flying glow-stick insects.
Also adding to this is the missile smoke.
These two (but especially the env effects) eat CPU like theres no tomorrow. My gfx card seems to be coping, but for some reason my cpu isnt.
People with faster CPUs dont have that problem, though.

... I'm running a core duo 2 at 3.0hz, 8800GT
and i haven't had any FPS drop.  I'm always above 20fps averaging around 30ish on medium quality, no motion blur effects.

Cam you UNDERCLOCK you CPU back to 2.7ghz and go try frostbite at day or marshes at night, and see if it falls to 8 fps? (with 20-ish players, ofc).

Noticed massive FPS drops on old maps and distinct problems on the new maps as well. Done alot of tweaking and its playable but I do think theres something going on thats causing performance issues, the assets haven't changed in looks but they seem to be eating up alot more of my processing power now when theres more of them.

Type "profile 6" into the console when you get low FPS and it says what exactly is causing the biggest performance hits in frametime (the higher the frametime the worse).  Personally my performance remains the same with a 9600GT and a QX6850...

The "new" particle effects for frostbite are also not new they are the same exact ones used before.  Actually they are even more optimized since I dropped the particle count from 3000 to around 2000. Not to mention the map should auto-reduce the view distances during snowstorms to 1300m as well.

I'm thinking it's something beyond map-related issues. It almost sounds like you guys are running the mod with the crash-logging enabled from the sounds of things (causes FPS droppings signifigantly for those with slower CPU's), but I highly doubt that.

9800GT here and I'll try that "profile 6" when I'm ingame next

Frostbite dropped to a miserable 12 FPS last night during the snow storm, I went inside the base and FPS was above 40 - so something is happening. Basically I can play until it starts snowing and then I have to look for a clearer climate.

I can assure you I have NO crash logging enabled that I'm aware of but if you can tell me how to look for it on my PC I will gladly turn it off to test that theory. Lastly in the 2.0 version I could get 50 - 60 FPS on most maps but with 3.0 my FPS has taken a huge hit. It's not a I"m quitting this game type hit but it is certainly a "pick certain maps" type hit until something comes along to explain the drop in FPS.

I'm maintaining a pretty average 30FPS between both 0.2.0 and 0.3.0. This drops to <25 in heavy action. No stuttering.

It should be noted that I had a performance drop for 0.2.0 as well.
Thanks for the view.

I'm also getting performance problems.  Really haven't had much time to play as of late but the 3-4 hours since release have been really choppy with freeze's and this weird pausing while running.  Haven't checked FPS yet will try this weekend.  My system could run MWLL on low spec in 0.2.0 but its been kinda rough going.....

I used to play at about 30fps on Medium settings, now I get about 20fps on low settings.  :-\

The cave map is unplayable for me; if I look up, I get about 5-10 fps

The crash logging is built into the .dll files so there wouldn't be a way to disable it if you do somehow have logging. It should have been removed from the dll files though for the public release. I guess a way to make sure is if have a documents/my games/crysis/mwll/crash logs folder and if there is anything inside there that is recently dated.  If you do, then the logging is enabled for some reason.

I have steam, and i lookedfor that file, and found nothing labeled in MWLL "crash logs", however cyrsis crash logs does have a recent date 13th of june (last time i played due to E3). Also it's important to note i have never played actually played crysis, i have a short cut which goes directly to MWLL.

I've on had slow downs in heavy battles, 7+ players near by.

I looked into this, and I've seen gamelog.txt and a BackupLogs folder in my Crysis folder.  I've even looked at the content, and it's MWLL-related stuff.
