How long does a game last?
« on: June 20, 2010, 09:49:16 AM »
I was thinking about getting into MWLL since i enjoyed the other MW pc games quite a bit but i was wondering how time and focus intensive this game is. can i just leave and join games/servers without any major repercussions? does a round usually last 20 minutes or over an hour? what kind of stat/rank persistence/tracking is there now or will be in the future? trying to find a fun game i can enjoy that doesnt require 20-40 hours a week to "have fun".

You can leave and come in a round as much as you want, at this point its more about fun and no one is worried about winning any match. The average round time right now is around 45-50 minutes. No stat tracking or anything and no plan to.
If you enjoy using light mechs you can have instant action, only if you enjoy using heavier more expensive assets will you have to stay in round long enough to earn that kind of money.

 are there high "resource/money" @start game-modes?

ive been playing battle tanks on warcraft 3: the frozen throne and they took the really high resource start away since a few versions ago. would be kind of fun to be able to stomp around in assault mechs from the start.

There is the Test of Strength gamemode, where you start with a specified amount of money which is enough to buy multiple assaults, but you wont gain money by progressing ranks etc. so when you got no money left and the round is still in progress, you're kinda screwed.
I've never seen that gamemode in public though, maybe coz there are many newbies like you around and it might be a little irritating if they don't go to the forum first...

In Solaris Arena, there is a ranksystem equal to the one from stock crysis
you start as Cadet with 49000 C-bills, wich is enough for several light mechs, some tanks, vtol and the first of three ASF
priceclasses  for mechs are:
Light: 49000 - 65000 C-bills
Medium: 58000 - 80000 C-bills
Heavy: 75000 - 100000 C-bills
Assault: 90000 - 150000 C-bills

Tanks cost from 20000 up to 85000
ASF: 25000 - 120000
Vtol: ~ 42000 (there is only one atm)

regarding the roundtime, there are servers where one round lasts up to 120min, and there are other servers which have a ticket based system like the one you know from Battlefield

In general, don't expect it to be like MW4, MWLL is more of a combined arms simulation than a pure mechgame, wich means Battlemechs won't rule the battlefield.
they are however the most powerfull weaponsystems ingame, but this doesn't mean tanks, vtols and ASF can't be a serious threat to you

Whatever, you could read all this ^ and decide whether you like the mod or not, or you could start the game, jump in a Mech and try it yourself... ;)
To be honest, you will need some practice, but once you figured it out, it's great fun! ;D
If at first you don't succeed try again, and if you don't try again, you'll be hit in the face with a shovel!

If you join a game in progress, you can usually find teammates who will donate money to you, allowing you to buy bigger vehicles. There's no time commitment required to have fun, and even light mechs and tanks are useful with heavies and assaults on the battlefield.

cool thx guys. i played battlefield 2 and i enjoyed its attempt at  combined arms and squad play, but its stat tracking kinda enabled my failing of several classes  a few years ago (thank you bf2s.com and all those damn shiny medal images) :-[
