my update to the list

Acknowledge:
Yes / Aff
No / Neg
Thank you
Sorry

Tactical:
Move out
Fall back
Follow me
Stick together
Wait
Stop that!
Flank left
Flank right
Go passive
Go active / Scout Go active

Intel: here all + the grids
Mech spotted (class , light medium heavy assaulte
Tank spotted
Aerospace spotted
VTOL spotted
Battle Armor spotted
-----
AA spotted
APC spotted
Fire support spotted
Artillery spotted

Support:
NARC planted + grid
TAG ready + grid of the spotter
Need backup + grid + status of person who calls 4 back up (green, yellow, red)
Returning to base + your grid + your status + ammo status (colors see above, ammo status maybe something in percent)
AA needed + your grid
Transportation needed + your grid and what your status

some ohter things would be nice ... you dont get the narc / tag massage if you have no LRM's / MRM's and your not at a close range to the spotter ( so you could have SRM range to the target)

you get no AA needed when you are in a non AA vehicle

you see what i mean.

and befor some1 ask: i just hit the field in 0.1.0 and play it for weeks ! just play a short round 0.2.0 ... so i have no clue how it is to fight in 0.3.1 but i think radio com is no matter of version

Support:
NARC planted ready
TAG ready
Need backup
Returning to base
AA needed
Transportation needed
Need ammo
APC on ammo run
APC ready for transport
Fire support in position

This is the part that concerns me.

Combined with these, I'd like to create a new menu to be placed beside the current map display.  Each time one of the above requests is entered, they get a spot on the menu along with their current map coordinate.  By selecting one of these options, you send a pre-generated message (with the position of the answerer attached) and get a nav beacon to the person who made the request for as long as it is active.  An example would be, "Ammo truck en route," for the, "Need ammo," request or, "Locking in on your position," with the, "NARC ready," and, "TAG ready," commands.  Requests would expire over time so long as either no one responds or the initiator does not refresh it.

So, a new look at that list with its appropriate responses :

Support:
NARC ready
Getting a lock on your position
TAG ready
Getting a lock on your position
Need backup
Moving to support
Returning to base
AA needed
Moving to support
Transportation needed
APC en route
Need ammo
APC en route
APC on ammo run
Requesting ammo
APC ready for transport
Need pickup
Fire support in position and awaiting targets
Requesting fire support on my position

Naturally, some of these are back and forth.  We have a call for NARC and TAGers to get fire support while fire support gets a call for targets.  Some are also rather specific to the APC and those units that can mark targets.
Thanks for the view.

Keep it simple, shall we? :P
And your current location is transmitted with every message anyway.

so you could use F5-F11 for commands without extra typing

ok then fading out...
People are stupid if they think they can have their own way.

... that is, unless they have HEAP rounds, high-explosive homing missiles, and terawatt lasers on a walking weapons platform, that is...

Why?  We need more Coordination, anyway.

I'd go for 2 ring menues, like in Left 4 Dead or Battlefield 2 (if I remember correctly)

Hold button to open up an menu, drag the mouse in the direction of the sound you want to play and then release the button.
Works quick and efficient.
I'd use 2 to make sure it does not becone to crowded, or else you will send wrong commands to often.

Example: menu 1 is used for important "in combat" commands, it only knows 8 commands.

Up: Press forwars / Rush the enemy (general "attack" command)
Up/Right: Passive units incoming / Enemies are flanking
Right: Retreat / Disengage the enemy
Down/Right: Need backup
Down: Hold this position / Keep them at distance (general "defend" command)
Down/Left: Need support against "soft" targets (calling AA and anti-BA, since a unit good against ASF is generally good against BA, too)
Left: Have to retreat / Returning to base
Up/Left: Artillery incoming, go passive!

The second one might have more, even 16, commands.
The sounds here are not supposed to be used while fighting, so you can take more time selecting the right command. This makes a cluttered menu useable.
Things that go here could be:
"Need spotter" / "Need NARC/TAG"
"Spotter ready, need fire support" (Hey I have a NARC, and I will use it)
"Shazbot" (I <3 Tribes 2)
"APC in position"
"Yes" / "Aff"
"No" / "Neg"
"I need some money"
"Gathering lights/meds for raid"
"Need Elementals for a point"
and so on
Never arm once what you could arm twice.

In Lyran Commonwealth, Atlas scouts you.

I think it would help a lot if at least the weapon groups were disabled after pressing F5-F8 if that happens to be easy to do. This way it could be used as it is right now a lot better, since you wouldn't fire when pressing the number for the appropriate message.

Also, something that wasn't mentioned before, but I guess most people were happy with a text-only version.
I really hope this suggestion is considered sometimes, because the Radio-commands deliver an easy to use way of fast communication. I have seen not so few people who use them even in the state how they are now, so I guess it should be worth considering it.

very easy for you to do within the action mapper.... hit the vehicle tab and delete all the "binding #1" for "firegroup 1 through 6"

then you can say "thanks" without wasting any (for example) precious narc rounds....

its what i did anyway and it seems to work well....

This is the same problem as sharing money and subsequently fucking up the weapon groups due to having pressed enter. What you suggested is just workaround. What would really be a fix would be to prevent these overlaps from happening in the first place.

AFAIK, the function keys don't fire weapons, it's the actual number keys(not Numpad) that fire weapons.  So this necro is all moot points.

Oh, BTW, try changing the cbill sharing to your NumPad.

I suck!! But WE are AWESOME.  We started a unit.  What's that?!  YOU WANNA TOUCH MY UNIT?!! :P ^^12thVR Recruitment Page(clickthepic) ;)

this thread was confusing for me. i started reading it, and immediately the thought was "oh god who are these people? i've never heard of any of them? are the forums being invaded?" then i looked at the dates. oh. a message from the distant past. ::)
