« on: June 28, 2010, 04:29:23 PM »
Can u zoom in and out anymore? have asked 10 times in game and I get silence. btw this version is great so far. Inferno can still suck though imo, new maps r nice. New sounds r also nice.

Press space bar, than use WSAD and mouse to move around the map.

(space switches camera modes, as follows: Static, Free, Other Player)

It would be nice to add that back in, as I have no idea why it's gone now.

Previously, when tracking a player, you would be able to use the mousewheel to move your view in and out but remain focused on that player.  Can't do it anymore unfortunately, which is puzzling.

Also, is there any way to add an "up" and "down" control to the camera when in "free flight" spectating?  Perhaps by using unassigned keys in spectator mode, like "r" and "f", or is that beyond the capabilities of the engine?  Just a thought, as in order to move straight up and down now, you have to look straight up or down and then move either forwards or backwards; kinda kills immersion when you're recording a match.

Not a terribly important idea, but it could aid in making cooler movies in spectator mode to suck in more people  ;D

Snowball, I second your questions! haha. I loved sometimes just showing my friends the game by going SPECTATOR and following a zoomed out mech. The game looks fantastic at high gfx(what I play at) and I love to show others to try to get them into the game.

Fun Fact:
Spectator camera can knock over chainlink fences.

Might be a way to balance team battles where one use a last man standing kind of scenario.
A dead team-mate would then become a free immortal scout with an unparalleled view of the whole battlefield. A locked view on a team-mate prevents this. The more zoom you allow the more the spectator can function to look over hills and around corners, but instead you "win" making a public game a lot more fun for those poor people who gets defeated early on.

/Merf - Just saying there "might" be some actual thinking behind introducing the limitation.

Communication between team members in-game and spectating is impossible through crysis chat, though it is manageable through 3rd party communication software like ts and vent.  It's generally understood that this should not ever happen in unit skirmishes (honor system) and if it happens in pubs, than no big deal  ;)

Also, the zoom in/out function was present in 0.2.0....

best way, if possible, would be a way to force spec cam to be a black screen, for league matches, if we were worried about specing players giving away intel. Personally I liked the old spec cam with the zoom functions, but the current freelook cam isn't a bad alternative, just a shame you need to be on spectator to use it.

I wrote a no respawn mod for 1.0, you can lock the spectating view position so that they cant see anything.

I hate Aircraft in this game, if I die from one, I leave.  I wish I could just fire back at them from a Mech.
