Not if the dog likes to chew (some just love carrying things around). Itty bitty sharp platic pieces is bad for your dog.

As for your machine, the laptop you are currently using appears to be a standard workstation variety, probably in the $500-$1000 USD pricerange. It may well be brilliant at what it's designed for, but whoever made it did not plan on it being used for high-performance gaming. If you are planning to play Crysis on a laptop with anything above medium settings, I just wanna okay crysis at any speed!  also want to see and make maps you are looking at a $2500 USD price tag, minimum, assuming anything of the sort is available in Belarus, which isnt garuanteed. There is an awesome place called Computer World, lots of awesome stuff there, but kinda costlyDedicated gaming laptops are rather rare. A desktop PC which can run crysis is a lot more affordable, probably around 500-1000 US dollars to run it at playable speeds on medium graphics settings. You'll need something with at least a 2.5GHz CPU, preferably 3 GHz or greater, 2-4 gigabytes of ramHave that on my laptop. For your graphics card, get something from the nvidia 7 series or higher, or the ATI Radeon 9800 or higher. If you're not sure whether a graphics card is capable of running the game, be sure to check online before buying it. Just google "is * card name* able to run crysis?" and you should get a decent answer.

Thanks solus! I'll try to upgrade or at least run Crysis on Low settings with 30fps, but that's fine with me. That way I can gain experience and actually give good comments. So... I'm waiting for the next steam sale.

I have no dog, and it's just shiny. I have a friend I could give it to for the single-player mode, his  desktop doesn't connect to the internet. I've warned him, though, and he said it was OK. Also, I could test my Crysis configs with the pirated to see if the real version works.

EB Games has sales on quite regularly and ATM here in Australia they have 50% off a lot of titles (including Crysis and Warhead). If there is one near you, or you know someone near a store, it might be worth an enquiry. I picked up FEAR2 for $10 less than Steam had it discounted to a fortnight ago.

Worse comes to worst, you wont be any further behind as you wait for another special, but you might get up and running sooner while spending less money if they have them available at a good price. Doesn't hurt to check.

I am getting the feeling that everything here is pirated, so I'll stay with steam unless there's a sale near a relative in America. What's interesting is that it actually works, but I'm trashing it. Thanks for all your input.

P.S. I'm trying to get someone to get me the steam version for my birthday... its only a month away, and I've got LOTS of stuff to do anyway.

Have you tried finding an online shop you can buy a boxed version from?
I get most my games from Amazon, not sure if they would send to where you live, but you can check that on the site.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crysis-Maximum-Edition-PC-DVD/dp/B001Q96ZNU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278672840&sr=8-1

Thats £19.99 + shipping, and thats not a bad price really.
At least this way you can be sure its a valid version of the game.

nah steam has no shipping

you have to connect to the net to play MWLL, so I don't mind.

Still figuring out if my mom's laptop can run Crysis (at least on low)

Tried canyourunit.com?
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri

Pick a game and it analyses your system and compares it to the titles requirements.

Okay, thanks I'll try it.

Edit: wow, the computer is perfect for running it.. except for one thing. I'm posting the picture of the canyourunit site, blacking out the sensitive stuff though...

ok then, here it is attached. the problem is that everything is good... even graphics memory and conditions!

does anyone know how to make Crysis work with my card? unfortunately I can't buy another computer dedicated to gaming because:
  • they're expensive except for in one store here
  • my parents dont want a 4th computer  ::)
thanks in advance for your input

edit: sorry for the double post, I have no idea how to attach stuff while editing.

edit: oh, thats how... i'll add what it says I should have

I hate to say it jason, but that card simply will not ever run crysis. To put it in simple terms, your graphics card is a microchip on your motherboard, about the size of a postage stamp. The smallest card you can get that will run crysis is about the size of your hand. Even if every other component on your system is good enough to run crysis, the GPU is the most important one, and it's nowhere near powerful enough for the job.

I was about to say the same, but he beat me to it.

You're trying to run one of the top games (as far as system requirements go) on a bargain workstation with no intention for gaming.

The reason your graphics memory is so high is because the vid card does not have RAM of its own (or has very little), and has to share with the main system RAM. While this makes for a much bigger number, it's much slower and inefficient.

the intel graphics chipsets are a joke, they can barely run WoW as it is.  I think you're hosed until you can get a real graphics card.  If one of your computers is a desktop thats moderately recent you can pick up a worthwhile card for about $100.

@ Solus: yes, i know, and its made up of millions of microscopic silicon transistors that are made onto the chip by uv etching and actually the real ship is smaller than the postage stamp (plastic casing around it), and I've taken apart and reassembled many computers. But thanks for the info about my integrated card.

@ toaster: wow, I didn't know that, thanks

to all: ok then, could I upgrade the graphics card somehow? or is there some tweak that will let crysis work on that card (rather, chip), at least on low settings?

and I know...
As in, crysis will rape that machine sideways
anyways with the tweak, but doesn't crysis only demand the graphics performance when actually playing? I would like to at least make maps and use the sandbox 2 editor, and maybe play on very low settings.

edit: oh, and capper, the desktop uses AGP not PCI-Express. That's one bad way for a computer to die...

Not exactly sure what you're getting at, but I was still using an AGP card when Crysis came out and it worked fine...

perhaps I should also add the analysis for my desktop to compare. note that everything not seen was OK.
