Some of the best Titles you never knew existed
« on: July 04, 2010, 05:05:33 PM »
Ok guys here it is a short list of the games you never likely knew about much less played but were absolute dimonds in the rough in the gaming universe.

(1) Phantom Dust - xbox

First and foremost for me is Phantom dust, absolutely superb game in every aspect aside maybe from the side character npcs. Not only did this game have strategy and great action componets all roled up into one awsome package it had great graphics for the time an epic sci fi story worthy of a place in Asimovs collection. It was priced under 30 bucks brand new and alowed one to play their own music in the background for battle. The cutscenes were well animated and told a story with good camera angles that drew you in and made you realy feel. The best part was actualy discoverign the reason all characters loose their memories when out in the "dust" that covers the world and who and what you realy were. It throws you for a loop and then some .

The most amazing feature of the title is the fact that it made a card style game feel like an action platformer and fighter all at the same time. No easy feat by any means but well acomplished with time released "cards' that must be physicaly run itno to pick up all while trying to atack block and doge yopur oponets next move. With destructable enviroments and the ability to use destruction to your advantage (by either useing telikinetic powers to chuck concrete at an oponet or drop it on them by destroying things among other things ) it added a huge element and very real feeling world.

I highly recomend getign this gem if you cna find it used or online i got two copies for me and my firends to play 2 on 2 via linked xboxes. It is less than 5 bucks used from gamestop now if you cna find it.

EDIT: im at work so im editing this as i go will add more games in future XD

You have to excuse him for not having proper English skills.

How about you read some more books, so that you might be able to read properly.

Picture Books does not count! ;) ;)

Personally, I'm a huge fan of Sniper Elite on Xbox/PS2/PC. It came out right at the end of the original Xbox's life cycle, around late 2004/early 2005. Basically, you play as an OSS sniper sent into Berlin to stop the Russians from obtaining Nazi nuclear secrets. The story doesn't matter much, it's the gameplay that's awesome.

To the best of my knowledge, it's the first and only game to take bullet drop, wind, body stance, breathing, and other factors into account. So when you snipe a target from long range, you have to really aim carefully. You can even mask the sound of the gunshot by timing it with environmental sounds, like aircraft flying low overhead, or exploding artillery. Really cool game.

Oh, and when you line up a one-hit kill (usually the head), you get a slow-mo, bullet-following camera that ends with a nice, explode-y head shot. Awesome.

It's become somewhat of a cult classic, and I've seen unopened copies going for nearly a hundred bucks. Personally, after I made the poor choice of selling mine in 2005, I recently "downloaded" a new copy for PC. Great game.

"Indeed I am, madam. And you're ugly. The difference is in the morning I will be sober. You, however, will still be ugly."

SCIENCE!

Excellent.

I was very lucky to find a copy for $20.  ::)

Back on topic, this is definitely one of the best looked over games.

Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube. I got this game when I gave my brother money to go get the Resident Evil remake for us and i almost killed him when he brought home this game i had never heard of. However, upon playing i soon realized that this game is a one of a kind. With "sanity" bar that determines how sane your character is feeling this game can really creep you out.

The character will begin to hallucinate demented visions that you as the player must suffer through. Some of them even do things like fake-delete your saved game or turn off the TV. Other visions will have invisible enemies attacking you, or one time i remember i walked into a room and random body parts began to explode off my character. This was a great game with a good storyline and some great plot twists. Any chance you have to play i would highly recommend you take that chance.

Also the combat was very unique imo because it used a camera that was similar to the RE series but with more freedom and in addition to guns, you used swords, axes, grenades, and even some magic to battle the undead. It was a great game all around.

The Legend of Dragoon

a PS1 game filled with badly translated dialogue and hilariously bad voice acting (in cinematics anyway). ironically, it's possibly the best game i have ever played. ever.

awesome story, surprisingly fun combat, dragons, humans, and dragon humans.

60 hours of playtime that keeps you attached all the way. it is, as far as i'm concerned, the best game of its kind.

As much as I hate to be a "me too-er", especially in an epic thread as this, I again have to pop in to say "The person I am quoting is incredibly correct."

Seriously though, the best RPG I can think of off of the top of my head, and even if I did research, I probably couldn't come up with anything anyway. Sorry. /me_too-ness

UpLink

I got hooked on this simple Cyberpunk/Hacker Gem.

Basically due to the lack of a proper 21st Century Cyberpunk/Shadowrun game. :)
