How many of your variants would use PPCs? (0.3.1)

I'm curious how popular the current 0.3.1 PPCs are, particularly after the response in one game was rather one-sided. Are they in/effective or do you just dis/like them?

If the MechLab were available right now, without changing the current weapon balancing, mechanics or effects, would you include PPCs in your Mech designs?

Depends on the situation and mood. PPC's are good for sniping with, but a little lazy for brawling with unless you have a faster weapon to switch between so when the opponent is briefly disrupted by the PPC the secondary weapon come to play :-X

I dunno, if i wanted to hit something I'd probably take erlbls now. The PPCs 'fly' so slow. It was another story in mw4.

I only use CERPPCs (the others are too weak) and then only when long range battle is anticipated, particularly at night. I also rarely use them in combination with other weapon types unless the other weapons all have identical travel times to each other. Trying to balance 3+ different lead times is very unwieldly.

So with all those caveats in place I use only a couple of the dev made PPC variants, most notably the 4 CERPPC Novacat, but I also will pull out Cougar B in the early game occasionally, and Scat C rarely. Now you said "my" variants so I don't know if you meant when mechlab was built. In that case I would probably not build many or any smaller PPC mechs since chasing after highly mobile light mechs is inefficient in the early game, and I would err towards lasers or CQB weapons. A 100 ton PPC wielding monstrosity for when I hit Khan might be a possibility I suppose but I don't think I'd be able to pull off 6 CERPPCs no matter how many heatsinks I strapped to my ride.

I voted 10%. I don't use and wouldn't make many variants with PPC's, but I do get a fair amound of mileage out of the 4 CERPPC Novacat.

They aren't bad, but lasers are better. It's the slow flight time really kills PPCs for me. So I go for a 0%.

I only use the ERPPC and CERPPC variants. Normal PPCs don't seem to cut it.

I use ERPPCs a lot due to my love for mid to long range sniping action. They do feel a bit underpowered at times, but usually I just focus fire on enemies who are distracted.

I'm bollocks with lasers; I can't track targets very well. It's ok if I've got 5+ MLAS or LLAS though. My tendency, however, is towards single shot projectile weapons. LBXs, ERPPCs, and the UAC20.

Secondaries would probably be MGuns, SSRMs, or MLAS.

Love the PPC Awesome, great for when there's a lot of BA's around or there's active Long Toms forcing people to run passive.  Make it much easier to take pot shots then.

Got to agree that they make secondary weapons, but not choice primaries.

Since the refire rate on all of the PPCs is so low, I only take them if I plan on sniping, and I only take the CERPPC if I can help it.  It is pretty fun to make people overheat with them on Inferno, though.

speaking of ppcs, I really wish we would introduce ppcs more along the lines of CBT. Meaning, a minimum range of 200m where within the 200m range the shooter could(not always) experience ppc splash back and even damage to the weapon. I think this would help even things out especially if we get a mech lab, i think it would be a great way to help equalize and help control ppc boating.

wait, is ppc boating a problem?  It's been my experience people go with laser boats for sheer firepower, accuracy and ROF over PPC boat configs.

Not having played CBT, I trust Sarna when it says ERPPCs have no minimum range, and PPCs have a minimum range of 3 = 90m?.
