Any Help For Hacking? - Possible Hackers on Server
« on: July 06, 2010, 11:36:48 AM »
This is not about hacks in the game as you play i'm talking about people who try to hack your computer while you are connected to game servers.  I think it has happened to me on more than one occasion.  Right now I'm having to re download Crysis and The mod and set it back up.  I have no list of servers anymore.  The only thing I do have is a chat tab lighting up and when I view the chat its all garbled.  It's distasteful but I think there are some people who are out there just to hack your box while you try to connect to a server and play.  It's bullshit to be honest and I know its not just Crysis crashing or the mod.  So any suggestions on how to curb this kind of thing??  I have been playing on the TX US server for a bit lately.  There are only about 4 servers that ever have anybody playing and that's the only one with a ping lower than 100.

This is _very_ unlikely. Most likely your installation is simply corrupted. Also try doing a filesystem check.

I was wondering about this the other day, actually, as I contemplated whether to play on the Russian server.

@ 400+ ping, I decided the frustration of playing would outweigh the joy.

Hmm well reinstalling the mod and deleting my profile etc did not fix the problem.  I even deleted steam and have now reinstalled it with a fresh download of Crysis.  This time I will back up the files before I connect again to a server.  The funny thing about the chat was there was alot of garbled language of ppl talking back and forth and then one line that said simply fapp you.  So not all the chat was garbled.  Maybe I'm reaching here but is the chat universal, meaning other languages would show up but be garbled or do some people have some kind of encrypted chat that only they can understand.  As I said I was noticing a bit of delay when pressing internet game and waiting for the server list to come up.  No server list would populate and all I got was a yellow flashing chat tab.

Ignore the Crysis chat. It's full of dipshits and idiots who refuse to understand that it's an international chat.

I'm a bit of an expert on these things and let me tell you, it is very very very unlikely that you'll get "hacked" while playing Crysis. In fact I have never heard of anything like what you describe so it's probably something else. So don't worry about it! But I worry about your computer, I think something is wrong with it.

Ill keep a watch on it.  Trust me though I have set aside a dedicated harddrive that is 160 gig...  It's the only one I wasn't using.  So anyways I set it up with Win 7 64bit, Steam and Crysis.  This mod is the only thing I have running on it besides antivirus, and device drivers like mouse, logitech keyboard etc.  I set it up to run lean and only for use for surfing and playing this mod.  Gonna check it out today and see if I have any hiccups.

same crap was happening to me a while back....turned out my C: HDD was screwed....every other (older) app worked fine but the data loss with mwll was too much..long story short, new drive fixed it all.

I'm pretty sure you just didn't refresh the server list a couple times. You gotta do that. What your describing is pretty normal.

Or your antivirus has a firewall that is stopping MWLL from finding servers (Or you have a firewall program installed)

The amount of ''hacked game servers'' for MWLL in the chat is laughable, why would anyone want to join shitty servers like that, expecially when there would be like 2 people on them? And they are run by people with zero Language skills. Sigh. Play on proper servers!

2 people on them?
The most populated server is one of the open variety with no CD-key checks me thinks....

This Garbled chat youre tallking about.
I have sometimes read the chat, and seen some rather "garbled" stuff myself, you sure its not just other players who simply are unable or even unwilling to speak anything but their native tounge?
Have you ever tried reading i.e. russian?

I have met players who has maistaken russian for being some sort of virus causing their chat to be messed up.
I have even seen players that are "fanatical" about english being the "only real" international language, and have accuse players not using english of god know what.
I even once had a player I was sure would have bitten my head off if he could for not speaking english to a countryman of mine in a public game chat.

But as someone mentioned check your hardware, could be something thats broken and causing problems.
Also check your firewall and just to be on the safe side, do a virus/spyware scan to make sure you dont have any malicous software causing trouble for you.

If the "garbled" chat looked something like this, then you've got nothing to fear ;)

I don't mean the boss server ^^ These are severs that are not in the server list, that are'' cracked servers'' I always thought it was pretty dodgy tbh. Boss server might be a cracked server, but at least it appears in the server list.
