New Game Mode
« on: July 06, 2010, 04:27:06 PM »
In this mode there would be c-bills, but not points. Like Solaris Arena, more c-bills are available to you based on your rank, but instead of automatically getting them, you draw them from a team fund, and could take less C-bills if you wanted. Also, in this mode, it costs C-bills just to spawn since BA costs c-bills as well. The loser in this mode would be the first team who didn't have any players left able to respawn, or maybe less annoying for those who don't want to wait, the first team whose c-bill count drops to 0.

This mode would place a much higher value on salvaging enemy mechs rather than destroying them since it would be the only way to actually increase your team's available c-bills.

Um...Salvaging? How would one go about this "salvaging"?

You can use the mech you've taken, fixing it up, or just go to the hangar and hit the good 'ol J button. In this mode the additional funds would go to the teams c-bill rather than the players own.

This mode can in fact replace Solaris Arena. Points are an unrealistic, arcady means to keep score. Hell if ya want another means to add c-bills to the team account, if destructible buildings are introduced, having infrastructure that simulates a working economy that can be taken out by the other team in an additional idea.

Frankly why this thread hasn't gotten more attention is beyond me. I'm not prone to ego-centrism, but frankly the more I think about it, the more I feel like this is how the game should be played!

Wait...so, you mean that I kill the pilot of an enemy mech and steal his mech? Right? Is that what you're saying? I take it and sell it for parts back at my base?

What's to stop the enemy from being a man and going down with his ship?  Or have one of his buddies to come up and destroy my mech while I'm taking the nearly dead mech back to base? Or simply power down before getting out and running home?

While I appreciate your assistance in keeping this thread going, I'm sure you can think this one through on your own.  :P If I took a guy out from his cockpit or he chose to eject and the mech was intact, then I could destroy his mech (best course of action of there aren't any friendly BA around unless your own mech is nearly destroyed and your opponent's reasonably fresh save for the cockpit...at which point you may decide to trade up), or a friendly BA would hop in and use the mech or take it back to your own base.

Since we're getting rid of the arcady point system, sometimes you may also need to destroy your own gear if it seems clear that the only other alternative is allowing it fall into enemy hands.

Or.. for salvaging send up and APC

.. with me driving it, of course, since few people would want that job.

Look at the "salvaging" and "tech salvaging" treads in Ideas

Team Cbills and the objective is to run the other team out of cbills?

Now that is a cool idea.

Team Cbills Tickets and the objective is to run the other team out of cbills Tickets?

Now that is a cool idea.

Team and Individual Ticket modes were released with the 0.3.0 build.

Right, Leer, but this isn't exactly tickets - it's based off mechs rather than lives, if it makes any sense (and this is how I understand it, correct me if I'm wrong).

So instead of starting with tickets that decrease as players are killed you start with a fixed number of CBills per team. It's like Test of Strength at the beginning, but there's respawning. So let's say a team starts with ten million CBills or something (numbers straight out of my ass).

Each player ranks up as normal in SA mode, but points are only tracked with reference to individual players so that they can make rank - the game only says "hey phobeste has x points that makes him a pcm and leer has y and that makes him sakhan" instead of "IS has n and Clan has m so Clan is winning".

So, each person when they buy things is taking money from the team, with a maximum of whatever their rank says (like a company credit card with a max!) So CBills are being debited from the team's account, and when enough people buy/fix up enough 'mechs that the team runs out of money and people can't spawn because they can't buy BA armor, that team loses.

It's a lot like tickets, yeah, but with enough subtle differences that I like it better.

This whole thread appears so painfully familiar. I believe to remember a lengthy discussion on this very topic prior to release, but I couldn't tell for sure if it took place among the devs/testers or here with all the community.

The team's official stance used to be that team resources like a cbill pool would be suitable for competetive play, but certainly not for public playing.
Not saying it might not be done at some point, just stating that this idea has been discussed before and rejected or at least put on the backburner.

I actualy like the idea maybe with some tweaks but i see where this is going. The idea is to work like a mercenary unit in the BT universe, destroy only the parts nesicary to win in order to salvage more. Force the enemy to abandon their units or otherwise cripple  them without destryoing all the $$$ you might get from decent parts.

I would tweak it by adding the ability of  an APC to perform a salvage operation by rolling up to a downed mech and collecting parts for x amount of c bills. Or build a cutom unit that looked liek a large crane truck with a flatbed THAT would be fun to build ...for me anyhow XD i love sci fi trucks :D

I think this would be a fun idea to test and see how it would fare, agreed it might work best with units/clans/teams but thats how it is with just about any game mode to begin with.

Looks like a cross with the salvage (http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/forum/index.php/topic,9787.0.html) thread, perhaps?

I'm shutting up until I can actually get this for this thread. dinAlt out.

I'm all for salvage trucks but I'm not sure that would be a fun duty for players.

By the way, while I would say that any game mode is better with organized play rather than suffering the disorganized pubbies, please explain to me what difficulties are so insurmountable that this game mode would be rendered unplayable.

My idea is to give the game more of an epic and realistic flavor. Get rid of points and give each team a variable amount of starting c-bills based on the number of players on each team and the server setting..perhaps 10-20 million c-bills for a 16 vs 16 match.

To this we make salvage (sometihng IMO important to the flavor of the game setting) a practical concept (as it stands your team is usually better off demolishing an abandoned enemy mech for points) and if we can include economic structures (other control points on the map that may churn out additional benefits for each team) we can even add attack and defend operations into the same game mode!

Folks, we'll never need to leave or computers again. I can't think of a better way to die of starvation.

Actually, truck duty wouldn't be that bad. Put a UAC10 on it and allow BA to spawn in it and it'd be fine.
Hell, it'd be fun to drive because it would be the center of attention and proctection for your team. They'd have to stick together and guard you from flanks as you move forward towards the enemy's side of the battlefield as it is cleared in front of you.
The only problem with the system as it has been hypothesized so far is that it requires that a BA is with every 'mech, otherwise one pilot is left guarding two mechs after winning a duel, one still standing and the enemy's empty one.
This gametype would make APC's more useful and tactical.

The current ticket mode is based off of mechs too, the heavier the mech more points you loose. Too bad nobody plays it.
