David" Light Gauss Rifle
« on: July 10, 2010, 12:49:39 PM »
As in canon, The longinus was able to use this weapon, it was basically a very light Gauss Rifle fielded by it, My source being here.

Anyway, I was wondering if this was being put in to the Game at some point? Just want to kill my curiosity really.

Agreed!  I've thought this would be awesome in the past, and wholeheartedly support Ashes request for it to make an appearance!!!  ;D

A decent idea but at a third of the damage of a small laser...anti BA weapon only I think (despite the weapon name's biblical reference).

If it is anti-BA, it prob won't even kill one in a single shot (a small laser doesn't) and so you would probably slightly injure a BA which would then fly off and heal  ::) so not too effective for that either.

I think we'll need to adjust the weapons specifications if we're to make it useful for MWLL.

Just high damage vs light armor (to one shot other BAs) and really low damage vs heavy armor.

It is supposed to be able to "threaten" mechanized units per the write up.

Yep, but it does make a damage of Mech-sized Small laser with roughly a range of Mech-sized Medium laser so... more of a sniper rifle than mechanized units killer.

or about twice of that if you count that MWLL BA is a point of BAs.

Still a third of what the BA small laser should be doing.

I have to ask why even include this weapon at all if just to snipe BA?  Mechs already snipe with enhanced optics.  The mPPC is a great BA sniper.  The AC2 already often kills BA in one shot.  So why?
Thanks for the view.

BA Small laser has higher damage than it's CBT counterpart. Even if you count 1 BA as a Point of them.

#
To have a long-range weapon, something that shoots further than 300 meters, and does some visible damage in a single projectile (unlike BAC2). And to be able to snipe BAs (so it should have projectile speed higher than PPC, higher range, and share the zoom feature).

I'll grant you that we have a bit of leeway with canon damage values, but the mPPC already makes it hell to travel open ground (almost a complete lack of cover that can be traversed on foot).  I don't just have to worry about large lasers and BA hiding somewhere in the rocks, I have to worry about BA hiding beyond the point where they will rendered?  And I'm sure you'd like it to be near hit-scan so it can pick off BA while in the air.

I ain't like it, Jim.  I ain't like it one bit.

Brainwright im sick of getting picked off at 500+ meters by Large Laser carrying mechs on open maps... so im not certain where you are getting the rendering range issue.

Really our only effective weapons require us to get in suicide range, ranges where not only do we have to worry about Large Lasers, but MGs, mass SRM launches from missile mechs, MRM swarms, splash from heavy Autocannons. Mechs have a TON of effective weapons against us, we only have a handful of effective weapons against mechs, most weapons that threaten us, also have a greater range than us.

How about this. Same restrictions as the micro heavy laser. Maybe same damage, longer range, instant damage compared to a lasers damage over time, fast almost instant projectile, long cooldown, and can only be fired from the crouching position (if possible) and causes a jolting effect that keeps the BA that fired it from moving for a second or two.

Issue #1 : Enhanced Optics kind of help.

Issue #2 : That's not what's being proposed here.  Read up.  Most people are eager to nerf its effect against heavy armor.  If weapon loadouts were limited a bit more, such as either taking away the SRM or removing the secondary weapon, I'd be all for it.

A precision weapon with the ability to reliably hit damaged sections?  Not bad.  So long as it was given a performance like the current gauss rifles, I wouldn't mind at all.  Tasking it as a BA sniper rifle is kinda ridiculous.  I'd only go for giving it a near semi-automatic rate of fire (like the AC10) so far as anti-BA goes.  That combined with a lethality within three hits against battle armor seems just fine by me.

The high rate of fire also would serve to make operators of the weapon more visible, which I think is fairly important so an operator can't fire with impunity.
