Burning trees

I've searched a bit and found several entries about burning trees. But the answer was that the engine does not support it. On the other hand those answers are about 2 years old, maybe the devs got more experience now. Maybe even could find a workaround. Because it would rock to use the flamer and lasers to set the trees on fire, creating a heat source. I know that this was possible in the table top and I'd like to see that feature in here as well.
Is it possible?

Seriously; if you just shoot the trees, your fps suffers horribly. 

Go on, try getting a mech with a few mg's/uac's/rac's and shred a decently sized patch of trees; watch your fps DIE. 

Now imagine not only that, but then each of those trees catching on fire and creating smoke, possibly spreading to other trees.

It's a really neat visual and tactical idea, but it'd probably kill the vast majority of players who don't have really really good computers.

Having burning trees will suck the life out of the servers! If not directly fry your GPU trying to keep up on even LOW settings. Clearcut already have burning effects at certain locations that runs for the remainder of the map.

cool idea- could probably be done through a flowgraph but maybe only in single player. i know there is a mod you can get from crymod that has dynamic fire that spreads and burns things- like changes their texture to a burnt one
