So what is the culprit for all these CTDs?
« on: July 12, 2010, 02:55:09 AM »
I CTD due to apparently any function...frequently the impact of my weapons, sometimes by firing my weapons, clicking a buttonhere, clicking a button there...and if I just sit there, I CTD by just sitting there.  But honestly, it feels that most CTDs come from activating/doing some random function...almost like I have an alottement and once that number i sup, the next thing I do CTDs me.

Is it a Memory Leak, a Texture/graphic element, a sound(I still crash even with my sound disabled), a stat/data recording/notation?...is there any inklings out there on what it is, even if it hasnt been nailed down yet.

Please check and see if you CPU/GPU is running to hot.

Which OS have you installed?
Which CPU or GPU have you installed?
How much memory have you installed?

PCWizard 2010 (free download, you can find it by googling that name) can show you gpu and cpu temps. I don't know of any cpu temp only apps.

A too hot GPU would give you artefacts first. And a too hot CPU usualy results in a BSoD instead of a CTD.
I've got a C2D8400, too and a Radeon 4870 GPU. I often CTD when there is much going on in the battlefield. Temperatures are all on a normal level.
I believe that there might be a problem with the sounds, because I often have crackling/disturbed sounds before crashing, or the sounds stop working at all, leaving me deaf in my mech. I've got an Audigy 4 soundcard with the lastest drivers installed.
I plan to try my onboard soundcard, to see if this will reduce the amount of crashes....

it is only one shit about this game - CTDs.. nobody can say why they appears and when the goddamn hotfix will be released what can solve it.

just for note - i got c2d8400 GTS8800 and 4G memory on winxp32 sp3. Never got a single problem when played crysis.

Got a motherboard/CPU monitor...my last CTD ws at 48 deg C...it ran fine at about 55deg C earlier on another map.

Ive had CTDs with my sound disabled...that actual card was disabled...but the weapon impacts(not just mine, but perhaps others) that cause CTDs will coresspond to a sound...but I suspect its the impact and something going on behind the scences with them is a culprit...the sound just cant help but play just as the CTD happens.

I got the Moo0 System Monitor from CNET...its pretty cool.  Gives all kinds of info and lets me know what is the bottleneck at any given time.

Please check and see if you CPU/GPU is running to hot.

I have seen several players post what their temps have been both while playing and as a CTD happens.
So far I have yet to see a single post that indicates that the problem is related to overheating, so I would think its safe to say that the culprit here is not overheating, but rather something else.

There has been mentions about sound, could the problem be related to soundcard/drivers?
I suggest we try to look elsewhere for the problem, as I doubt the problem here is due to overheating.

Hm that's interesting. I had some sound issues before as well. Certain sounds not playing, like weapons, or jj. I will try to pay attention if it is followed by a ctd next time.

I'm using an onboard 5.1 "Realtek High Definition Audio" card. Driver ver. 6.0.1.5672 which is fomr 24.07.2008.

I use a SB X-Fi fatality sound card and will do the same.
If we can get some more players to help as well, then we could maybe help the devs identify the culprit here.
So far it has eluded everyone, and the sound is only one posibility I thought of as it has been mentiond by others as the potential reason.
Dont think the devs dont mind us giving them a hand tracking down this elusive little bugger.
This way we might be able to narrow it down a bit for them, and help identify the source of the problem so they can snip it.

One of the issues I recently discovered is graphical settings being reset to what you don't expect on a game restart.  You go in, turn off "motion blur", turn down "shaders" both of which will help with stability, then when you restart the game, motionblur and shaders are back on!  I had to edit my "game.cfg" file and make it read-only to really make my graphics settings changes stick.

IS that possibly your issue?

I just crashed again, but sound was ok.
I was pushing down the acceleration key (NumPad 1 for me) when that happend.
Maybe I'm flooding the game with signals, cause I'm used to keep the "walk forward" key pushed all the time. I know it's not necessary cause once the velocity is set I can stop pushing it...Maybe others do the same and have CTDs while those who are smart and do it right and don't crash?

I crashed again yesterday. Twice, and both times I was holding down the "move forward"/"accelerate" key. Which is NumPad1 for me. Maybe it's related?

Sounds like it might be worth taking a closer look at.
I had another CTD yesterday as well, but I was in an ASF and i use a joystick for that.
Was nowhere near the keyboard when it happend, however I did get that satndard windows crash message.
"Crysis has encountered a problem and has to close" and then you can choose to send an error report to MS.

Had 2 crashed today, first time I had to reboot the computer as no matter waht I did, I would not get into windows and shut it down.
The screen showed only the game. "Alt+Tab", "Alt+F4", "Ctrl+Alt+Del", I tried all of those but the game image overrode all.

Second time the game just closed, no error messages.

Both times I was flying an ASF and was using only my joystick.
I have noticed that the game tend to freeze for a few seconds sometimes, but do not know why or how to reproduce it.
