game.cfg overwritten!
« on: July 12, 2010, 03:48:03 AM »
Hi all,

I just realized something disturbing today.  While troubleshooting some graphical issues, I realized none of my changes were sticking.  I would make a change to the game.cfg, say setting "motionblur" to "0", and when I restarted Crysis, the motionblur would be turned back on!  Upon exiting Crysis, I noticed the game.cfg was changed back to default settings!

I think this might be because I delete my "shaders" directory after changing settings, and that might be the problem.  However, I addressed this by setting the game.cfg file to read only, now it retains my settings.

Any ideas about why this would be re-writing every time I start the mod?  If not, I guess I will add this to the wiki under the troubleshooting page...

Put those settings in an autoexec.cfg, not game.cfg.

Yeah, but changing graphics settings using the in-game system options don't stick, they are re-set to defaults every time I reset them.

Try putting it in the autoexec.cfg instead.

Ok, forget about the game.cfg.  If I change my graphics settings in the in-game screen, they don't stick when I leave the screen for system settings/video.

I have been unable to turn motionblur off even when running autoexec.cfg.  I am forced to use the console to disable it!

If the game settings won't stick you will have to make/edit an Autoexec.cfg file in the Crysis folder to change the settings to whatever you wish, until the MWLL team can fix the problem. It's not great, but at least there is a work around.

Could you try editing your game.cfg and make it read-only as I have described I've had to do above and let me know how that works for you?  I think if this issue is common or ubiquitous, we should get it on the wiki and publicize it more.  I think I'm hearing everybody is having the problem?  Or just some?  What's the deal?
