Any way to disable missile particle effects?
« on: July 14, 2010, 06:25:50 PM »
I love the MRM40 Catapult as much as anyone, but I don't like how the missile trails in front of my face make my framerate plummet into the single digits. This also makes using the LRM5 as the iPoke (however meek as the 'Mech already is) a waste of time.

Is there any way to exclusively remove the missile trail effects?

Particles were heavily optimised with 0.3.2

You did not state what your current hardware was, but the average consensus is that the latest hotfix improved FPS by about 8-10fps.  If you are still having issues, it may be time to consider hardware upgrades or troubleshooting.

Whereas owners of an expensive gaming rig will enjoy a massive advantage over people who can run the game, albeit not comfortably - and that's perfectly fine.

I understand the dilemma, but the way you put it, frankly...

i invested in my rig alot of money to have that advantage, i also have eyefinity- so i don't have to torso twist much to see my enemys- that's another advantage of a good rig which i payed for. solution: get a better rig or upgrade just like everyone who has those advantages

I would love to know what the biggest resource drains are in the ccc autoexec config without having to switch them to zero one by one and entering the game repeatedly.  I'm already cranking some setting s lower than level 1 of ccc but it's just a guessing game for me  and I don't want to screw anything up.   Turning settings down should confer no more advantage to a player than going out and buying a better system, yes?  All he was asking was if you could turn them off not stop getting hit by them. I swear I'm goon to find a way to get performance back to 0.1.0 levels or burn up my machine trying.

Honestly, that's the answer I feared.

You put good money into your rig and for that you deserve a much, much more enjoyable experience than someone who barely gets 20 FPS in low res, lowest quality settings (when there's no missiles ^^). But I don't think any amount of money should grant a competitive advantage. Reading your post felt like listening to a doped athlete justifying himself: "But I paid for those drugs! Where's the harm?".

No hard feelings though, it's just that our points of view differ completely. I hope you can see mine.

There will always be upgrade advantages in PC gaming.  The more you spend and upgrade your machine, the better your performance will be.  This generally equates to an improvement over your less-upgraded peers.  The only way you are going to get out of that race is to switch over to the console world.

There is honestly NOTHING we as a mod team can do about that other than advise lower resolution settings to regain frames performance.  Lower resolutions can cause loss of detail/distance rendering/sounds so there are other drawbacks.

In the end, if you are only getting 20fps with LOW settings, your hardware needs some money thrown at it.

If you have a great rig that gives you such a great advantage.. How come you always do so bad?

edit: BTW, how does eyefinity give any advantage? FOV seems to be locked to 60...

do you have it? i don't think so- you are completely and utterly wrong- period. eyefinity doesn't strech your screen......

and just to prove it- here, i'll take some screenies for you then people can shut up with arguing things they have no clue about

You go ahead and try to prove me wrong. Just tell me what aspect ratio you'd like to see from my single monitor and I'll go ahead and post a screenshot. Feel free to admit you are 'completely and utterly wrong- period' when I do. You didn't buy an advantage, you bought extra monitors.

edit: BTW, congrats on sometimes being top 3. You da man, that's some serious skill.
