A Peek Into Upcoming MWLL Development
« on: July 15, 2010, 04:52:21 PM »
Hello MechWarrior: Living Legends fans!

In the coming months, the MWLL team will be undertaking a new round of development to follow our 0.3.0 release and its related hotfixes.  In a move away from our prior "large" release structure, we will be using the new embedded auto-updater feature (released with 0.3.2) to release smaller updates at more regular intervals.  We will still have minor version content packs that embody a particular new feature an its supporting assets, but we will be using "hotfix" versioning to deliver both bug/balance fixes and individual content updates.

One of the major changes to our schedule is to defer the Crysis Wars port until Toth's connectivity has been fully restored.  We had originally planned this to be delivered as version 0.4.0 shortly after the final hotfixes of version 0.3.x, but we absolutely need Toth to be able to pull that off, and he is still AFK for a bit.

As such, we have been pushing ahead with other development.  Terrain Control (TC) and Free For All (FFA) game modes are nearly done except for final polish on supporting maps and assets.  We are really looking forward to releasing these to the community as much more interesting alternatives to SA and ToS.  As you might expect, both Team Tickets and Individual Player Tickets will be supported for TC.  Both modes will launch with at least 3 maps each.

For vehicle development, we have decided to focus on filling in some of the gaps in our tracked vehicle ranks by adding Medium tanks to the mix.  I can't share exactly which models just yet, but they will fill the void that currently exists in our "straight to Heavies" lineup.  New 'Mech production will continue, but with a lower priority for this development cycle.

The Clan Xerxes Heavy fighter is our next planned aerospace to add as a playable asset.  After some additional polish and some fresh paint, we expect this terror to join the skies and give Shiva pilots something to be concerned about.

And not to forget everyones' favourite: Battle Armour.  For the short term, we plan on adding to the equipment purchase selection options for our standard Elemental/Longinus BA, again under the "dedicated BA" path concept.  Currently anticipated (initial) upgrades will be: JJ upgrade (increased burn, faster recycle), enhanced harjel pack (faster armour regen) and manpack BAP (increased radar detection range).

Alongside the BA upgrades path we will be bringing on a new system of BA Valuation Scoring.  This system will factor in the BA player equipment inventory & weapons, player rank and "dedicated" status to determine an appropriate C-Bill reward for the killing of the player.

We hope that you have enjoyed this peek into our upcoming development, but know that it only touches on a few topics in the overall list.  We also have some plans for "surprise" content and features to maintain a consistently refreshed feel for the MWLL mod.

If anyone reading this has skills in modeling, exporting models to CryEngine2, texturing, level design, character animation or C++ programming we would love to receive an application from you.

great news.  im really looking forward to the changes.  If you really are looking for help, i might dust off 3ds again and see if i can get back up to polish before i put in an application. And hopefully once the internship is over i might actually have some time. I really love what you guys are doing here, keep up the good work.

Nice to see new maps and new game modes. Sad that there is a downtime for 0.4.0 and the Wars portation though. And well I hate the whole BA thing so I see myself steaming with hate even more when the time comes but meh, others like them so w/e.

Edit: Oh, and the saddest thing is that I won't get to see new Mechs, although Clans really need some Medium and Assault class mechs. :(

Sounds awesome. As far as the "straight to heavies" concern with mechs, I really think what is needed is a couple more solid options for the 80,000 c-bill rank. My opinion is that releasing the Stormcrow could help to fill this niche nicely.

looks awesome to say the least

While i think the Leer's comments were directed toward vehicles, I do agree that clan mediums need some love in that price range.  I have no doubt that they'll fill it eventually.

Sounds nice indeed!
More game modes will be very fun to test out once they get here. Will mean a lot of new things since its both a new mode and new maps.

Love to see the BA getting attention into making it more into a dedicated unit.
Will be most happy to see them also being valued according to equipment. This will hopefully also impact team score perhaps?

/Merf - Thinks its always nice to get a look into what is coming.

This is awesome news! I cannot wait to tear up enemy mechs in a BA equipped to the max. Also the new gamemodes will breath some much needed life into this already amazing game. You devs rock!

P.S. Now at least i have a longer time before i have to go buy crysis wars, woot

One question concerning the maps though, will there be a possibility to play the new maps also in SA mode? That'd be great. :)

We are trying to move away from SA_ development and focus more on support for new game modes.  FFA maps are not possible to be converted to SA_, TC_ or ToS_ modes due to their structure and no-base requirements.  TC_ maps could *technically* be changed to SA in some specific cases, but I'm not sure if the benefit would be justified by the amount of effort required

Here's hoping for a high speed SRM carrier, or even a HGauss medium tank! Let the speculation begin!

Nice to see what will be coming. Keep up the good work. 2 things though: Please release a new Clan Medium Mech for the 70-80k price range and please bring in the feature to stomp bas with mechs. As far as I see it this is what has been missing until now and gave bas a good time. By the time you can stomp them in the ground all this hating will probably stop too.
