as far as OCing goes. i guess my system isnt realy that good to OC.
i checked my bios settings. on bootup the cpu shows 11x 200Mhz, but i cant select an 11x multiplicator in bios. only 10.5 or auto that high.
well, i tryed to change to 220 MHz and keep the other stuff auto (like HT and RAM)
with this 2.4GHz the game was already playing better, but the pc stopped after few minutes.
i think i will need pation and buy better hardware instead of killing my pc.

You also need to read up about how to overclock your CPU, you need to change voltages as well in most cases. Just google your CPU and how to overclock, and your find lots of help.

I'm glad you saw a nice improvment even if it did crash after 2min :D

Oh, and also most CPU except the really expencive versions have locked mulitplyers (thats the 11x etc you saw) and you can't change it up any higher. Sadly.

what he said

I learned what I know about OC'ing here- http://techpowerup.com/

This is what I've been able to accomplish with what I've learned(Intel Q9650 at 4.16ghz)-
or to see a even better result, look at the CPU speed in this benchmark(Q9650 at 4.2ghz)- http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=13059616

i dont wanna spam you here, but hey i found an article about my amd 4200+ dualcore here
http://www.anandtech.com/show/1718/3

but i checked my bios and CPU-z and im not quite sure about the voltage and the Memory.
first. the memory of my two RAM have different timings in CPU-z at last number of the JEDEC #
second. for the voltage in that article. the standard says 1.55V and Max OC says 2.8v ? (i cant get my bios voltage that high)
and in bios are 3 options for voltage. "boot with x volt on next reboot"
and something like "MBChip 1.2v Select:  1.25 V"
and "VDIMM Select: 1.95V"

in the article there are two setups, is that for one system or for two different tries ?
Maximum OC
(Standard Ratio)    245x11 (Auto HT, 2.5-3-3-7, 1T, 2.8V) 2695MHz (+22.5%)

Maximum FSB
(Lower Ratio)    326x8 (2608MHz) (Auto HT, 2.5-4-3-7, 2.9V)
(1:1 Memory, 1T, 2 DIMMs in DC mode) (+63% Bus Overclock)

from the article it looks like i should try with 240mhz x11 , 1.45V? and (Auto HT, 2.5-3-3-7, 1T) ?

I have very little experience OC'ing the AMD dual cores, but from what you've shown here, personally I'd go for 245*11 and start bumping the voltage to the cpu up alittle at a time until it's stable. Make sure you watch your temps. Run a stress test program like intelburn or orthos and make sure temps don't go above 80'c under full load. And before anyone says 80'c is too hot, this is under a sustained full load, which in normal everyday use isn't gonna happen. For normal everyday use, I'd look to stay under 70'c max. Your CPU is made on a older fabrication process and can withstand heat alot better than the newer CPUs.

80C isn't too hot :D Oh and remember summer = HOT weather. Take that into account when looking at your temps!

P.S Never overclocked AMD cpu so no idea at all!

went to microcenter today to buy the coolermaster V8 cpu cooler so I could try to push my amd 9650 (2.3ghz) past the 2.5ghz I managed with the stock cooler.  Ended up buying the AMD 955 x4 3.2ghz processor AND the V8 hehe.

Crysis playability has really increased, I can't believe the difference!

Next step: gtx 460

(my gf is on the verge of killing me already)

I am *exceptionally* happy with my GTX 470, it has rounded out my rig** nicely and I haven't hit anything I can't play a full detail levels without sacrificing frame rates, of course, I generally don't play a lot of FPS at full 1920 x 1080 because it makes my instrumentation and HUD hard to read from the couch.

Changed my mind on upgrading, getting a motorcycle instead.

Guess I'll have to wait about a year till my new card :'(
