Yikes, someone tone down the peen in this thread.  It's clear who plays this game with the intention of being among the best and who doesn't.  Comparing 20-0 scores when 16 of those kills are on "Mechwarriors" isn't showing anything except how highly you think of your abilities.  Honestly, for people that play this game with a training/getting better mindset, it's very easy to go 15-0 or better, you know when to engage, you switch targets to the weakest threat available, etc.

With the exception of Snowball, I don't dread going up against anyone that plays this game.  (His aim really is ridiculous)  So please calm the swagger a bit.

And in response to whether people are cheating?  No.  There's just a vast disparity in skill between those new/casual to the game and those who intend to be very good at it.  One way to note this obvious disparity is to look at any high scoring scoreboard.  There could be someone 15-0 on both sides... now this doesn't make a lot of sense, until you consider that they're killing every poor player that runs beyond safe position.  I find lately that my main goal when on one side of a situation like this, is to give that other guy some deaths.  It is much harder, as you often very rarely see your counterpart, since you're both not doing death rushes into mobs, but the payoff is so much more worth it.

But to be fair to the high-scorers among us, it's not always due to turreting/sniping.  I make flanking attacks right through the main line any time I think it's feasible.  It's just not feasible on many maps because of the design.  If there's a bottleneck with 6 enemy mechs at it, you're not going to flank them and be able to push through, your only choice is either light harassment or sniping.

QFT.

I'm a pretty solid player sometimes i'm in the Top 3 but most of the time i hang out on the middle of the boards.  For me it's all about patience.  If i hang back with some long range weapons I can snag a pretty decent k/d score. Majority of the time lately i've been running APC/BA which in itself lends to a LOT of death, especially against forum regulars.

I forgot who mentioned it, I think it was InVix, but often time i go hunting with my a small amount of teammates only to find they've run off to chase a Raven while i'm stuck trying to kill something much heavier armed by myself :P yay more deaths

Also on the momentum thing, yes if a good player can rack up some good early kills and get to their normal mech of choice the fight can become heavily one sided.  The only times where this could be "easily" countered is if there are air assets with good pilots or heavy coordination between narcs and arrows.

I've just played two rounds on the US server and had a blast.
Scr*w the k/d stats, it's so brilliant to brawl with the close combat Bushwacker. Everything goes boom! :)

Even if they are, the fact that Bushies all have LAMS gives them a fighting chance at taking out both Arrows if they're positioned just right.  Bushwacker B for the win.

So the consensus is....

Play better?
I hate Aircraft in this game, if I die from one, I leave.  I wish I could just fire back at them from a Mech.

I'm in favor of "Hunt better"

All the really dangerous top level players all tend to be hunters.  ie they're effective of finding prey and kill them before the prey had a huge chance to fight back.  They all seem to have very accurate aim as well.

Play better?

It's really difficult to get the masses to collectively play better. The majority in this thread may support promoting better play, but it would be more logical to find ways to change the skill curve so that those at the top really have to work hard to be twice as good as the next guy. As it stands, it's not hard to get more than 10 kills after a week of practice, at least that's how it was for me.

But that can wait. We still have the crysis wars migration and more gameplay types coming. It's possible half the top players in SA will cry bitter tears in FFA and TC.

Had the pleasure of dropping into a game of thrunderift (gag...) that was going on the MWLL offical no 3 server (I think).

-AAA- was cleaning up with a huge 20+/0 k/d ratio, Tried to take him down, but just couldn't get close with all the incoming fire. I was forced to RTB constantly or risk getting instaboned by all the long range fire.

I got quite a few points just from dealing damage, but I only got one kill or so in 2-3 deaths. Most of the round I was running around in a Raven C subsistence farming for repair money :D. I could never finish people off as they'd usually RTB or get nailed by someone else, of course pursuing them is suicide.

Maybe that map just bites the big one, it's needs a serious re-think or objectives to be anything more than a meatgrinder. Nothing makes me rage more than falling off the bridges into the soul consuming blackness of the water below.

I love the challenge though and it's always good to match wits against good players in these chaotic servers. Most of us downunder players are used to sparser populated servers where most scuffles are 2-3 a side.

Haven't bumped into Snowball yet though...

S'allright, I usually go down with my mech or power down and slink off back to base.
I'm not nearly l33t enough to stand a chance as BA :D.

I must be the only person who cannot use LRMs too, At one point I'd managed to scrap together enough money to sell my raven and pick up a bushy C to lay down some long ranged hurt.

There was a huge long ranged sniperfest going on, and I decided to try rushing back and forth between cover on either side of the 'pain corridor'.

I could hit with my ERLBLs but I just couldn't get my LRMs to lock in the 5 seconds I was exposed. Seems everyone else can lock and and shoot these things at me if I so much as poke my toe out for a second. What am I doing wrong?, does your mechs speed affect the LRM lockon time?

No, but if you're crouching, you get a very significant boost to lock-on speed.  Also, if the target is passive, has GECM, or is under the protection of AECM, lock on times will increase.
