Title: Draw Distances OP
Post by: Hi im shadowfigure on August 20, 2013, 04:31:38 AM
I can run the game fine at high, around 30 fps, but when I leave the base, I find my fps instantly drops to 5-15. Lowered all my graphics to minimum and figured out that if I look down, It runs at smooth 60 fps. Any way I can reduce my draw distances?

Try this: http://wiki.mechlivinglegends.net/index.php?title=MWLL_Performance_guide

Best general, well except the toxin general, because that guy's basically a sure fire win.

Definitely try the CCC utility Bruno posted. It's amazing.

I used to run MWLL on my ancient computer with only a 2.3ghz dual core, 2 gigs of ram, and a Geforce 8600. Except for stuttering on certain maps (due to low RAM) I could get about ~20 fps because I ran the game with everything disabled via CCC.

Alright thanks guys, but for the Directx 9.0, which do I choose?

Win XP 9.0C
Win Vis 9.0C
Win Vis 10.0?

Im running Win 7

Thanks, Shadowfigure51

Try Win Vis 9.0C or Win Vis 10.0, I think it doesn't matters much. 10.0 might give a few shader bugs that you can solve, but if you wanna avoid that just use the 9.0c.

Yeah the shader bugs really are not that big a problem either tbh.

If you're referring to the glitch where player names and cbill transfer screen don't appear, that is easily solved. Just hit the tilde ~ button whenever you join a server to bring up the console and it will never happen.

The infantry general is surprisingly good... Though I've always liked the laser general... because lasers...

Dr.Thrax was mainly good cause the other two kinda sucked.

In a skirmish, anything involving infantry, producing non stop. Yeah, because I rush.

Honestly guys, the toxin general would wipe the floor with all others in 99.9% of battles.

Not needing power, toxin trucks and tunnel networks. It all adds up to game winning.

Personally, I like camping myself in my bases, building mass defences and massing gigantic armies while I wait for my Nukes to charge. After I launch all my nukes at 1 player, I send my army for a mop up.

(P.S The CCC didn't really help. My FPS Is at 40 when not rendering much and gets to about 10 when rendering large distances. Is there any way I can reduce the render distance or increase the fog? I don't really mind....)

Do you know what model your CPU and GPU are? OS version and amount of RAM?

If you're not using a 64 bit version of Windows with at least 4gb of ram, you're going to experiences some memory issues from time to time.  You can solve that by aggressively reducing the system resources consumed by the game, and restarting frequently.

Here are some draw distance settings you can put in the autoexec.cfg file.  These are what I use on a higher end computer that I run near maximum settings on, you'll want to drop them down to whatever's still playable for you.  Dropping them to half is probably a good starting point, possibly  less than half on the xy as I pushed that one up from the default maximum.

e_detail_materials_view_dist_xy = 4096
e_detail_materials_view_dist_z = 1024
e_view_dist_ratio_detail = 75
e_view_dist_ratio_vegetation = 100

Sounds like a CPU bottleneck to me, either that or not enough ram, or not enough video ram on your video card.
