Launcher Unable to Check for Updates

Decided to go ahead and try out this particular MW game, but the launcher doesn't seem to be able to check for updates so I can actually install the thing properly. I have good internet and under normal circumstances it should be able to actually work, but it doesn't. I've tried letting it do its thing multiple times to see if it was a one off error and it's consistent every time. Is there anything I'd need to do with my router perhaps, such as whitelist a particular port?

The launcher is usually pretty reliable. Can you give me the exact error message you're getting?

From the server logs, your MWLLLauncher/3.0.6509.38645 managed to download updates.xml and then proceeded to download the newest version of itself. Then it stopped. Weird.

Man, that's gotta be some network black magic going on there. Exact error is "Cannot check for updates! check your connection! do you want to re-check?" with a y/n prompt. No error code or anything, just that.
