12thVR Verde
SnowGibbon
This server runs on AWS Spot Instances (https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/spot) to provide quite beefy servers at a vastly reduced cost. As a result this server is a bit transient - Depending on which region is currently offering the lowest price, Verde may crop up in West, East and Central North America.
I'm still trying to find the best instance type that will provide good enough performance for 24 players for the price point so there may still be some wigging out involved. I highly appreciate the communities efforts to test this out for me and I apologise in advance in case the server turns to jelly during your Fafnir-infused rampage.
Currently the server only runs on the weekend as I kick it off manually, but looking to write a script that'll automatically choose the least expensive place to run it and run it during peak hours.
Normally it runs TC only, sometimes I'll mix it up with some different game modes - puretech, mirroredtech, puretech solaris, messing with league mode settings, etc. etc. I'll announce here if there's anything non-standard going on.
I'm the sole custodian of this server. Please report any miscreants in this thread and I will deal with them accordingly.
Current rotation:
TC_DeathValley
TC_CitytechV02
TC_IvoryTower
TC_Forsaken
TC_Qandahar
TC_RingofFire_v0.3
TC_PhlegetonV03
TC_Inferno
TC_ThunderRift
TC_NewAvalon
This is a Linux server running the dedicated server under WINE, in case if any of you are wondering.

Verde is up and running on a T2.medium instance, US East. Not sure if I've tried this one before but I've had good results with the T2s and on paper it looks like it'll do the job

Aaand it's down again. Thanks for playing this weekend to those who joined, unfortunately couldn't get enough players to really kick it in the balls this time but I think I will stick to the T2.mediums for now because they've been getting continuously cheaper to use since they were introduced and still look great on paper.

Regular TC is up US East on a T2.medium. Free Training is also up and about US East on a T2.small for Unbroken's upcoming and very excellent training day this weekend: https://forum.mechlivinglegends.net/d/45-open-training-day-saturday-january-13

No Verde this week, the instance prices have started to sharply go back up since mid this week with no particularly favorable openings in any of the availability zones. We'll see if they go back to being affordable next week.

So it looks like AWS has made T2 instance prices streamlined across the board - It appears that they're a flat 70% discount on the regular price. So, I've ditched the Central region since it was more expensive than the other US regions and we've moved to Oregon, which is now the same price as the previously cheaper East Coast regions. If it stays this way for a while I think this may be the permanent home for Verde since there's no advantage to region hopping anymore. Pacific peeps will get better connection there, though not as good as the much pricier California region which I reserve for special events.

Couldn't you run these on t2.micro or t2.small for a Linux dedicated server. Less memory and space but way cheaper. 12 months free on t2.micro. 1gig memory for micro and 2gig for small.
Host the maps somewhere else.
Sorry for the thread Necro . .
