Third Person Mode
RAVEN
Star_Wraith The Mod is called Living Legends because its centered around bringing in all the things from the MechWarrior games and I do like that very much so why would someone decide to leave the one thing that gives the player freedom of choice that has been there in past MechWarrior games that is my issue. Other than that great work on everything else.
Star_Wraith
RAVEN I see your point. We appreciate your feedback.

We also don't have a mechlab, which also was in all previous MechWarrior games and was arguably the mechanic containing the most freedom of choice for players.
Does that make MWLL a bad MechWarrior game?
Sometimes removing mechanics can be beneficial to the design of a game.
Could you further explain what you like about third person camera?
If it's about seeing you mech from the outside, while I would agree that that's cool but I would be with the others that it has no place in mwll at this point. If we ever have a single player I would be fine with it there but not for the multiplayer.
A third person camera is usually placed behind and above the character. Even if it's implemented in a way that doesn't allow to peak over hills or around corners or shooting without exposing the cockpit, there is also the fact that you see your back which can tell you if, from which weapon and what angle you're getting shot at. If you want to prevent that as well we are at a point where the camera wouldn't be allowed to render anything that you can't see from your cockpit.
That would be a lot of work for not much gain if we could even do it.
RAVEN
DeimosEvotec No I can see why the mechlab wasn't included because everyone can buy the mechs in game and its variants as well so its obviously not needed and yes I enjoy seeing the mech in third person view because I feel more like the mech itself instead of only seeing a small handful of details being stuck in first person shooter that's all.
Valheru
Sorry Raven but no 3rd person view is actually one of the things I like about MWLL. I really like the sim aspect of it and that you're always viewing the world from the eyes of your pilot.
3rd person view also opens a can of worms in regards to competitive gameplay and really just doesn't offer the experience I'm interested in. I love the fact that I and all other pilots have to use their instruments (ie. radar), spatial awareness and some thought in considering that your view is restricted to what you can see out of your respective cockpit.
MWLL is one of the few games that sticks to its guns on these kind of matters and I love it for that fact.
Val
RAVEN
Valheru Previous MechWarrior games that have third person shooter option still has the player still relying on radar and the rest of their instruments to play the game.
Halite
RAVEN This is not a 'previous mechwarrior' game, this is MW:LL. You can disagree on the opposite point of views if you want. But the consensus from from players and Devs is that 3rd person is a fantasy.

Halite
If 3rd person was anything like 3rd person spec camera, no. Adding a "feature" which opens the possibility to unfair advantage is a bad design idea. Like was stated you can choose to like it or not like it.

RAVEN
Halite No one had any problems with the previous MechWarrior games having third person shooter enabled I don't understand what is the big deal and like I stated earlier I do not believe it adds an unfair advantage in the first place.
Spooky
RAVEN Even in MW4 there was a server option to force 1st person view for "serious" gameplay.
fire-hound
@RAVEN instead 3rd person view, You can jump out of your mech in MW:LL, and, moreover, open fire with an BH_MG or even man-pack SSRM.
I once finished off an Atlas this way in SA arena where my opponent didn't know that you can disembark an asset if you know how.
Speaking of unfair advantages...
And in MW:L we don't even have free view either (looking side-wise inside the cockpit).
RAVEN
fire-hound I like the way you put all that together kinda funny.
Glarrg
Whether you belive it or not, using 3rd person does give in unfair advantage over people in 1st person. If 3rd person was availible, regardless of you liked it or not everyone would use it because it's a straight up upgrade.
RAVEN
Glarrg Rather you believe it or not it does not give an unfair advantage.
RAVEN
Halite By the way when the word "previous" is used I am referring to other MechWarrior games that came out in the past why would I call this MechWarrior Living Legends a previous game that is the stupidest thing I've ever read.
Glarrg
Alright, later dude
Halite
Bye. For a future note, less hostility toward people of differing opinions will make your point come across better then salty spoiled milk.

RAVEN
In a contradiction to my earlier statement from being the last post. The rest of the discussion was good until I made that post which I should've deleted it sooner because what I said didn't come out right at all which eliminated the entire point of what I was trying to say which is my fault sorry guys.
Ressk
If you read over the old forum archives, i'm sure there are a few posts in there requesting the same.
MWLL is aimed at the simulation crowd, and the unrealistic addition of 3rd person mode would violate that principle, as well as allowing corner peeking, hill peeking, and other arcadey traits the game is built to avoid.
Tenchi When
RAVEN
Ressk I get the point because of the realism but there are also fans of MechWarrior that still want to play third person despite this so that is why I am hoping the developers will at least understand that and one day make a third person server for those that want to play this in third person and have a first person server for those that want to play in first person only.
Ressk
RAVEN Likely your third person server would be MW5 at this rate.
