Solaris Super Slam - 24 Feb 2200 UTC

SnowGibbon

It's that time again! What other sport in the Inner Sphere features 60 foot tall walking siege engines, 500 Kilowatt laser shows and a 50% contestant mortality rate? That's right, it's Solaris Time!

This idea for a new kind of Solaris tournament has been brewing in my mind for a bit and the latest slew of Solaris Arena events had me figured that it's high time to give it a test run.

Here's how it will work: For each weight class there will be three rounds of Last Mech Standing at different C-Bill offerings. To avoid dumb standoffs like the last time there was a Last Mech Standing competition, the winner will be determined by a score tally across all three rounds, though bonus points will be awarded to the last mech standing of each round. The map will have to reset in order to change the C-Bill limit which will slow down the whole process, but hopefully this type of tournament will offer some more complexity beyond who can spam the most Daishis.

Proceedings will be fairly informal. I'll be sitting around in Teamspeak at mwll.mekmaster.com on the day and once we have at least 5 participants we'll start with the Light bracket and work our way up until people get bored or go to sleep.

BRACKETS
Lights - Mechs Only - 45k -> 55k -> 65k
Mediums - Mechs Only - 60k -> 75k -> 92k
Heavies - Mechs Only - 82k -> 98k -> 120k
Assaults - Mechs Only - 116k -> 130k -> 170k
Open - Any weight class, any vehicle - 60k -> 85k -> 110k

Fluffy_Destroyer

I don't like the idea of restricting weight classes if you're also restricting price. A 65k Light is meant to be as good as a 65k Medium or Heavy, so why also restrict the tonnage?

SnowGibbon

Fluffy_Destroyer Because you can't find the best heavy mech pilot in the game if they all drive mediums. With duelist's events we had several weight class rounds with unlimited C-bills and it turned into nothing but cougars, ryokens, mad cats and daishis all day. Instead, pilots have to prove they're the best in their class including the top enders and the turdy enders.

And besides, the Open bracket is right there and it has no asset restrictions.

Domkek

I'll happily gat you and all challengers provided this is hosted at sane times.

WHM-P tournament when?

SnowGibbon

So we did a quick test and found that scores are only allocated in Last Man Standing to the actual last man standing. Anybody devvy got any idea about a scoring mode cvar or something? Otherwise we'll have to go off of kills which is doable but a bit bleh

SnowGibbon

Only 24 hours until we slam, Solaris fans! The pilots are already gnashing their teeth at the gates, because we've doubled the stakes this year - not one, but TWO free drinks at the Valhalla club!
