Whatever you do, do not try out Minecraft!

It will suck you in and won't let you go.

Okay, I gotta call it out. Minecraft is not like Dwarf Fortress. Sorry.

Minecraft is about one guy who digs and builds. Thats about all they have in common. I hate to oversimplify, but that is what the game is. Dwarf Fortress is about a bunch of dwarfs who dig and build a society from the ground up. Again, we have digging, but its still not the same.

However, they are both great, great examples of what a developer can do. Minecraft is an excellent way to get those creative juices flowing, to just grab a pick and build something. Dwarf Fortress is similar, in that you are creating not only a society of dwarves, but an entire mine with a history all its own. They are both incredible.

But.. Minecraft like Dwarf Fortress? Thats a bit of a stretch.

So... is Dwarf Fortress an online multiplayer version of Minecraft? I saw a trailer for Minecraft and was not impressed.

No. Minecraft already supports multiplayer.
Also, trailers don't depict how the game really plays. Sorry, there is no other way but to test it. The sad thing is, you can't really test with the (free) classic version because alpha is fundamentally different (as explained by me above)
don't bother sending me PMs, I probably won't be reading them in time.

Only the multiplayer doesn't support minecraft.

In other words, the multiplayer(survival mode) is in a pretty early version but that's about to change soon. Nevertheless, both singleplayer and multiplayer are great fun.

I don't have enuf moolah to get the real version, but how do you ADD blocks in classic? I can only seem to destroy, and that's it.

My hand built (albeit, the mob spawners were modded in) TNT factory:

1) Creeper-proof doorway (supposedly)

2,3) They go in...

4) Stuff magically comes out!  ::)

1:  Farm gunpowder, make crapton of TNT
2:  Roll back every 5 blocks in 2x1 drift mine and light fuse
3: ....
4:  Profit!

Had to find some way to pass the time til 0.4  :D

What texture pack are you using and how did you increase the resolution like that?

Johnsmith texture pack v3, with the HD texture fix.

By resolution you mean the game itself I guess? That's the result of the two above.  Couldn't stand looking at the default stuff  :P

This is also maybe one of the reasons why 0.4 is delayed :-P
There comes a point where the talking must stop, and people have to do actual work.
