Hi guys,

Considering the success of the last 14v14 event, we're going to host another one.

We're going to use Tonnage instead of cbills, for simplicities sake this time round. We'll stick to the 1.125 ratio previously agreed upon during the Planetary planning.

Maps are as follows:
CanyonPro - 640 Clan/720 IS Tons available
Plains - 800 Clan / 900 IS Tons available
Warzone - 950 Clan/1070 IS Tons available

Format will be the same as last time:

Only 1 of each variant
Split comms - 3 seperate lances/stars per team
1 Overall Army Commander, 3 Lance/Star Commanders
Server will be Huntress
VOIP will be via Community Ts3

I'm going to take command of the Clan forces, but will need 3 Star Commanders to lead my forces.

On the flip side, the IS needs an overall army commander, as well as 3 Lance Leaders.

We'll get all this sorted in advance, and plan our drop lists in combination with our drop commanders. Teams can either be sorted on the night, or in advance, for the sake of extra preperation.

I assume times are PM (ie. 9PM GMT) ... if so - I'm in again (10am NZDT on 18/12/11 - or Sunday morning and plenty of time to sleep in  ;D)

Yes, I will be there.  As for lance/star command I'll volunteer but defer to more seasoned vets that are interested.

You can fill one of the preallocated CJW spots for now dude.

Just to stress, need commanders for the day, I'm not sure if AIMB wants overall forces command or just to put drop lists together for the IS forces.

P.S I might not actually be here for this (ffs), so will be defering command and control over to probably Amarus, unless anyone else who wants to play clan wants it. We have been strategizing however, so that bit is partially done ;)

I'm going to keep this as it is for now. Considering its the last weekend before the Holidays, I imagine there will be a lot of fluctuation in regards to player numbers (I for one wont actually be attending this game).

However I do think that big community events like this are a great idea and we should do them more often. I may also consider having more specific things that people can sign up for next time, like roles and squads. Project Reality do some really great, well structured events that are similar. I think we should aim for that kind of standard.

This's not a problem. If there is no room for us, we can wait and watch this epic battle 'till someone go to bed. Or rotate with ELH guys.

Anyway, we'll come, 'cause some of our guys in the list and we wanna to watch theirs game.

Just in case there won't be enough to fill a second server for organized play, we could also just beat up each other in SA, and do kind of a small championship, no?
what I mean is, LMS with plenty of starting cbills, but first round everyone picks a light, second round a medium, and so on, and at the fifth round everyone is allowed to purchase whatever he wants... just like solaris arena in MW4 ;)
just in case we decide to play SA if there's too many of us... ^^

We will need another server then. MWBU is between hosts which has our Rcon for the servers. Not sure I want to do management through the cfg's on this.

The game is not ready for this kind of event. With 28 people there are just too many crashes and problems.

Nice idea, but it wasn't too much fun in the end.

Good games guys.

But the inbetween was hhhngh.

Last time went well enough... but this time was quite inefficient but it really wasn't anyone's fault... just hard to get this stuff off the ground.

I'm going to try to set up a TC night and see if it goes faster... then we will see from there. The only thing I'm not planning on is respawn TSA because that will be silly.

Might get a LMS game going after the TC if it goes quick enough and the crowd thins out. ;)

I think most of the slow down can be attributed to using these new maps. I think when running these matches they should be on tried,true and tested maps.

Was fun once the battles got going. Thanks to all that worked hard to get drop decks and commanders going for the matches. Your patience made these happen  ;)

dunno if it was because of the maps, the server, or that we had actually the full 32 ppl on the server, but the lag was horrible for me. I hardly got a shot at anything.

Trying to outrange clan mechs on Clearcut: HNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGHHHH

Even worse was the fact that I was in a Thanny D so all I could do was wait until they got close to finish us off. At one point we finally agreed to charge, and by charge I meant me typing fappING CHARGE ALREADY into teamchat 5 times after AIMB gave the order, realizing that nobody is gonna charge into 7 clan mechs who were all ready to alpha strike, leading the charge, absorbing all 7 alphas (my Thanny was like 95% health and had a ton of armor so I was pretty sure I'd live if I twisted to spread damage) hoping it would give our team a chance to move in and cause a clusterfapp, turning back around and going back behind cover with all orange health and realizing my team didn't move at all >_>, flanking all the way around the hill, absorbing another 4 alphas, and killing a Loki before the other guys finally killed me

That Loki was the only kill our team got that match :-X

I think most of the slow down can be attributed to using these new maps. I think when running these matches they should be on tried,true and tested maps.
I really liked the maps as well as the idea to throw something fresh at all the people who came to play, most of which hadn't played in a while because the game had gotten a little bit stale for them. And with 28 people there will always be somebody who has to download the maps.
I preferred to wait instead of playing one of the "built-in" maps for the thousandth time, knowing that everybody else knows the map like the inside of his head.

It seemed like the try to get a 28-player game running would be a good kind of test for a map. It is a shame that only very few people show up whenever there is something like an "official" map test. All of you who proudly spammed the chat with "LOL, I HAVEN'T PLAYED IN YEARS!": Be ashamed of yourself.

I felt some sort of like playing civil-servant-mikado (auf gut Deutsch:Beamten-Mikado) - the first one who moves would loose... I saw a lot of mechs running 'round behind the hills from left to right - from right to left - and so on, beeing far behind my shooting range. My first thought: holy cow... 4 Morrigu's, 2 MadCats, 2 Novacats, 1 Loki, lots of 'Scat's... My second thought: this would surely end in some kind of slaughtering if they would push forwards. Anyway, the first match turned out quite good for the IS, but the rest... Okay, was my first battle in such dimension and it was kinda fun, although it was really different from normal playing because of coordinating a wild bunch of 14 insane maniacs  8) :P

The Clearcut match was a waiting game but once the action started, it was great but I ran out of AC2 ammo at the end. I never thought I could use all 10 tons of AC ammo reload with the Huit prime  :o

I think I have to thank you, it was a great experience for me and I am still sure you really did not have an easy job out there. And your english... well, it's in the kind of nature that most people have problems with speaking english when its not their native language. We had at least 3 completely different nationalities yesterday, including time shift etc. Speaking and writing english are two completely different things. Two thumbs up for you who tried to manage this bunch of trigger-happy guys!

Heh, it helped that we split into russian, german and english speaking lances (Urishima speaks really good english so he counts :P) for really easy lancemate communication

But we (lol, I wasn't even in that round, so not really "we") could have won sandblasted if we simply camped the LT until he ran out of ammo, maximizing his defence and letting him shoot without worrying about friendly fire

Fun games!
Bit much on the downtime in between. Mostly attributed to that middle map causing crashes and as such had to be swapped out. I think that was the single most time costly thing that happened. Other then that setup went reasonably well I thought (even though we on the clan side maybe dawdled a bit since the time delay forced us to swap overall commander).

First fight we got had bad. One of our stars got too engaged, even if they tried to pull back to our main force it resulted in us taking a lot of damage without really giving much. Then when the main body finally saw action our position in that bowl was not good. Shooting any assailant down resulted in damaging friendlies as well. I finished that game with top score on my team but -1 kills >_<. I know I could count one CJW friendly and Deathshade to my friendly fire kill list. Deathshade went down when standing next to a Thanathos I finished off, the CJW guy (was it Gouty?) I have no clue how I got. Could be the nuke that went off in the middle I suppose...

Second fight worked much better for us. We had a bunch of jaguars on our side and we jaguars love the sand... so maybe playing Sandblasted helped us? Anyhow, some people got boned by the LT when it started firing, but over all we had good spread and I do not think we took _that_ much LT damage. My guess is 2 people getting red-ish all over. Then the clan assets being suited for the rolling hills sort of fighting sandblasted offers allowed us to pick at targets without taking much focused return fire. That push the IS side did near the pyramid felt fruitless. Maybe it bought the LT more time? Anyhow, sniper star found the LT and went LT hunting instead of sniping (sorry Commander, I am to blame ^^). We got the LT but looked a bit bad for a moment when both a Thanathos and a Mauler closed in on us. Think we managed to retreat without losses though? I left both the arms of my shadowcat prime out there in the sands, but meh... totally worth it =)

Last fight on Clearcut was really grating on my nerves. Both teams taking up position on either side of the map, thinking the other would somehow haphazardly move into the firing lanes and get killed. I am not very patient when it comes to stuff like that and got a bit vocal about it. Xarg (our over all commander after Amarus left after the time delays following the first fight) grouped us up though, banding together all the LAMS we had with us, and with a slow push near the IS base we moved in looking like a mobile laser disco. Looked rather awesome seeing the grouped up LAMS taking down those missile volleys. Was not the easiest thing to get 14 people to charge with some semblance of cohesion (especially not with the Morrigus being both slow and having trouble with some of the terrain on Clearcut), but it seemed to work well. The approach near the IS base also gave us good mountains to use as cover, allowing us to use the clan tech weapons to their strengths (high alpha out to good range) while easily negating the IS long range weapons more DPS like nature by simply moving back into cover. Finished that map with the centre of my Timberwolf turned into a new window...

Big props to Commanders (AIMB, Amarus, Xarg I believe) and sub-commanders (no clue here since I was only in one group...), TS3 setup (Invictus) and server admin (Zathrus). And of course, all the players that showed up and showed patience when there were issues =)

Wow, that first star of ours got hit that bad in round 1? I never knew from my position down in the "bowl" they engaged that heavily. IS tying them up and more or less annihilating them before the rest of the Clan forces saw battle probably sealed the deal on that round.

As for round 2, seems we _did_ lose someone on our little LT hunt, namely Vahl. Your sacrifice will be remembered. ^^

I was recording gameplay, though in hindsight it's not all that exciting from where I was. Also, I likely should have mentioned that I've played as an LT ~3-4 times before... Oh well.

well Sesame.. me thinks it was your connection, no one else was lagging that I know of so I am not sure what was going on with you.

I agree that we should only have maps that are "stock" maps or custom maps that have been tested extensively.
We had trouble with people disconnecting.. and the TC map refused ToS rules. so we had some delays that could have been avoided by using "tried and true" maps.

In addition, when we are using custom maps, it would be good if everyone planning on playing installs the maps before the match. That speeds things up tremendously.  8)

From the IS perspective the flaw in the plan was to bring an LT and then not even wait for it to take a single shot before sending all of our brawlers in. Meanwhile, a Mauler and Thanatos were left as rear guard for the LT.

What should have happened instead was for everyone to form a perimeter around the LT and overlap our LAMS and then engage in an artillery war with their Arrow Boats. Once the enemy engaged us, then we would bring all of our mechs to bear on them. As it stood, we went in piecemeal, didn't maximize the use of our artillery piece, and ultimately got cut apart one lance at a time.

Sounds like you guys where not all too happy with your situation? Least on our end we had fun once we got moving. From when that column starts moving (right at the start of your clip) I had action pretty much constantly. Just regret it took 20 minutes to get to that point =)

Yes At me too was such and it is connected first of all with a bad communication quality and remoteness of the server because, for example, when I play on Huntress it there are at me very often in particular when on the server many people and if I play our server (RUS MWLL#1) or 7 WD servers That it happens much less often, and when the server already is completely filled by people.

I'm really curious to hear the other team's radio chatter. No offense intended, because I hope this is taken as constructive criticism and not an attack, but there was not enough communication happening from high command down to the Lances. There would be long minutes between requesting orders and any order updates, and orders that were given were often difficult to interpret or required follow up questions for clarification. Lance 2 followed command's orders and didn't jump the gun, but it was very frustrating watching half the company get pushed into a meat grinder where we could have helped immensely, but our orders were to stay put and await orders that didn't come until requested.

Perhaps I misinterpreted how the command structure was supposed to work. Maybe the lances were supposed to perform autonomously the moment enemy contact was made and follow additional high command orders as they came down? Either way, on round 2 the strategy was sound but the tactics employed were flawed. And in round 3 the strategy was again sound, but the tactics flawed as missiles were not fired in concentrated salvos and command utterly failed to issue orders to Lance 2 who was relegated to a rearguard defense that didn't get into the action until half the company was obliterated.

I have also noticed that our command structures are somewhat lacking... My guess is that its because our leaders are on the battlefield, and get sucked into what they're doing. "Hang on one minute." can turn into several without any troubles. Perhaps we have some way to let the commanders just sit and watch? Maybe a ground-only fight and the commanders fly in VTOLs and watch?

hell no

The best commanders stay focused and dynamic under pressure and enemy fire. If you can't handle that, either try harder or let someone who can command ;)

I really wanted to make it for this - my internet has been down since the 14th. So sorry I took a slot and never showed. Sounds like some good times may have been had amidst the standard trouble of waiting and disconnects.
