Title: Star Citizen Fans! Attention please!
Post by: Werewolf486}12thVR{ on February 22, 2014, 12:26:24 PM
I have been asked to create a thread on the RSI site that some of you may be interested in! If you saw the video of the Mustang and you liked it and want to buy it then you need to go to the link below and vote yes or sign yes. This will make the pledge package happen much faster then CIG has slated.

https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/108105/attention-mustang-pledge-package/p1

Thank you and spread the word!

I don't really get star citizen.

Not that I don't see the attraction.. that's not it at all... its literally that I don't know what you will do in it.

Its all so sandbox and so vague to me that its hard for me to get excited about it.

Someone educate me please.  :D

But my knee jerk reaction is the same to any sandbox game... I don't want to be a merc or pirate or merchant or whatever... I don't want to fly a little ship around the galaxy... I want to be part of a crew on a bigass battleship and go wreck shit and conquer the galaxy! My lust for empire has always impeded my enjoyment of sandbox games....  :-\

I didn't play wing commander back in the day. I was busy playing TIE fighter, a much more militaristic and imperialistic experience i think.  :-*

Take a look at Artemis SBS, and keep an eye open for Pulsar.

SC = (X3 x MP x Consistent Universe)

At least it looks that way so far, we will see in the future how it all pans out, won´t we ?

And ...

Umm, you might be able to do that.  Be on a battleship that is, fighting, either in space combat or FPS style fighting in the ships.

I suggest you contact Hartsblade and talk with him, the man has more knowledge about the game then I do. I just want to fly tiny ships and shoot things while I help the rest of the team accomplish their missions. hunting Pirates and doing that was enough for me to toss money at SC, that and to be able to say I tossed more money at SC then I have MWO will be nice. Supporting the band of crazy misfits we've assembled in our tiny little insignificant organization is plenty for me as I figure the laughs and fun will be nonstop. We've got ships from the Constellation down to the Aurora in our fleet which will make it fun for me as I can even crew a ship with those misfit friends! It should be a fun ride.

On a different note, How about UIConsole2.0 in MWO! Isn't that just a brilliant piece of work?

Time for the most annoying noob question ever about any upcoming game or mod!

...

So when will it be done? *Trollface*

More like... when will it be playable?

I wouldn't mind playing with you guys but I have a vague idea of what this game is and no idea when it will actually get into a respectable beta.

Yes. I actually had one interview last week, and I'm scheduling another for next week for an Artist position.
Wish me luck and throw money at the screen. Think of it as the money you couldn't spend on MWLL to support us ;)

Kami is already there. We'll slowly assimilate the MWLL talent into the SC team and take over.

OH DAMN! My interest in SC just went a couple of notches.

Yeah I would say Heartsblade and Werewolf are probably the more knowledgeable guys on SC within our community. They've already made a "org" (Project Ronin i think) that's casual friendly  (might have a sub org actually called the 12thVR once the devs get multi org registration setup)

12thVR are an organization as well, started by Uri.  And yes we are planning on being the more militaristic/merc 'sister org' of Project Ronin.  I can't fapping wait.  This is what MWO should have been, and they could have done it if they weren't lazy Americans/Canadians.

We were looking into having just one org, but the thought of a "Sister" org and having a different focus was just to much. The plan as it stands right now is to have dual memberships for those that want it and to work together when needed. IF, and I can't stress that enough, CIG gets it right this will be the biggest and most successful game of our life time. If they don't get it right it will be the best damn space sim ever!

I'm honestly amazed at how easily you're all getting suckered into this.

I am extremely dubious at the end result of this project, too many goals, too small a development window and frankly, generating far, far too much hype.

As far as a lot people are concerned this is the second coming of christ and I don't get it at all.

Now don't get me wrong, I love the genre. I've played most of the classics of the late 80's into the 90's. But that's the thing, I would be happy with that again.

I don't need X:Eve Online: We've got no end game, so grind for marginally better scanners and lasers and have such a constricted economy that no one wants to take the risk of starting a war because they're lose their real world investment into a virtual space ship...

I mean if people had donate this amount of money to NASA or the European Space Agency... but no, that carrots going to dangle, so giddie up lil'mule.

I would personally prefer a rounded story driven game, taking place in a huge X like universe, but it just feels better. As good as X is it doesn't get human interaction well as has been swiftly proven by the release of X Rebirth... I want this rather than this latest trend/buzzword in gaming "massively multiplayer" those memories of world or war craft are still lingering to this place, it's hell and it's going to stick it's dick into another genre of games that I enjoy/love.

That's bullshit and you know it. It's the same argument I see people bring up when they argue against charities like 'Child's Play', saying that people should donate to cancer research instead.

Listen, the money that people want to donate to NASA or ESA is going to end up there regardless. People would not have given more money to them if Star Citizen had never existed and I highly doubt that you can prove that they are right now getting less money simply because Star Citizen is a thing, so kindly take that argument and flush it down the toilet please.

His criticism is solid as a granite wall, except for the one that I quoted. I wasn't lamenting his 'molestation' of Star Citizen, I was criticising this one argument he brought to the table and nothing else. That he didn't say 'NASA is getting less money because of Star Citizen' doesn't matter, because 9 times out of 10 when someone uses that argument, THAT is what they imply. I had had this sort of argument countless times online and offline (mostly with very ignorant/narrow-minded people) and that was usually what it boiled down to.
Bill probably didn't mean to imply it, I think he is way to smart for that, but most people do.
Title: Re: Star Citizen Fans! Attention please!
Post by: Bill on March 26, 2014, 04:27:54 PM
It wasn't my point, it's kinda cute you thought it was, then re-negged on it by calling me smart (for which I thank you, I don't often receive many ego-points that I don't provide myself). My point is that it would be better spent on those two than another over hyped disappointment factory, or even a video game in general. Please spare me your pariah's cries of how it's your money and you're free to do whatever you want with it, I'm obviously aware of that. My problem is that people are more interested in getting a shiny twenty minute distraction for the one time small payment of, what is it now? 35 million USD?, than investing into programs that will benefit us all as a species.

I would love to be proven wrong on this one, but as my erstwhile college Cyofee pointed out, the stereotype exists for a reason and that just makes me sad. It makes me wonder just how easy it would be to do something like this and just cut and run. Hell I wouldn't even need to do that, I could just deliver a terrible product and watch people fight over how it's still amazing and that other people don't understand (I wonder what franchise I could be talking about there, answers on the back of a postcard kids!)

I guess I forgot the fundamental truth, being interested in science (or insert whatever term you want here) doesn't nessicarily make you intelligent (which is a term I dislike using as I don't like the current definition and use of it).  Now that's not meant to be a personal attack on any of you, more a reflection on how all this nonsense has become a lot more culturally acceptable and widespread since my youth, well not so much, more so how people have realised that there's a lovely demographic of gullible people who think being marketed towards makes them unique and special to exploit.

A lovely example of which is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ehhqcx8V4K0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ehhqcx8V4K0), or rather what this satire is based upon. Or the whole "gaming fuel" bullshit from Mountain Dew, or a thousand other things. They're harbouring the idea that liking certain things makes you somehow special so they can sell you pieces of plastic and reformed corn. This fucking world we've allowed to be created for us, honestly..

Also Uri, if you gave me enough time and hyperbole, I could prove that your dick is responsible for the ecological event that resulted in the destruction of Egypt's Old Kingdom as well as most, if not all, of the near east civilisations of the time.

That reminds me of the other day when I was reading up on the James Webb Space Telescope, and how its' funding was nearly cancelled a few years ago the by US Congress after 3 billion(GASP) had been spent. The USA spends tens of billions of dollars on the stupidest shit imaginable yet they were concerned about hubble's successor going over budget more or less the exact same amount hubble itself did?
Pretty sure hubble was worth it....

Anyways, yeah, I'm not so sure about star citizen. They(the devs) havn't done a very good job explaining to me what it is, all I hear from them is that ITS AWESOME and ITS LIKE EPIC WING COMMANDER.
While that's nice and all, I'm afraid its looking like first person Eve at the moment, even with the ability to fly around and pewpew in dogfights every so often, that still sounds pretty boring.

That's my main problem with it, I don't totally get what they're attempting to do outside of it being, as you say, a first person eve with dogfights.

However if it turns out they're attempting to do something very cool fleet wise AND it has a compelling and interesting single player component then I'll likely be very interested.

They were going to cancel it but they changed their minds and instead capped the funding to 8 billion, its about 75% done by now and the launch window is set at 2018.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/10/James_Webb_Primary_Mirror.jpg

The primary mirrors are finished I think. It might get pushed back past 2020 though... but it looks too far along to just dump. So I'm hopeful.

Eh bringing in anything regarding the US government spending is an exercise in frustration. It's no longer aspirational as much as it's "it also needs to look good to the voting block that keeps me in office".

On Star Citizen I remember reading the initial interviews where Chris Roberts was adamant that's SC is not an MMO and yet people kept treating it like an MMO. Sure it was going to have multiplayer but it was going to be more like Freelancer (ever server is it's own world with population cap, probably around 32-64 players). Now the hype bubble is that the servers can be connected together or something like that.

I only donated $20 cause I'd still like a fun Star/Freelaner game with some co op missions I can play with a few of my friends.

We think too alike, Square.   Logical and unstirred by the masses.

I also think it's funny that Billl's stil got it, so easy for him to get all yer panties in a twist.

We find out next week if it has the potential to be important.  Funny thing, Billl, it may be more important than al the space agencies combined, at this point in their collective histories, that is. ::)

This is why I should both be elected into office and never elected into office.

I'm certain I could get things going the way I wanted, but with terrible consequences. Hell maybe I'd be assassinated, that'd be nice, I'd get to be dead finally and potentially a martyr for pseudo intellectual humanists everywhere!

Pretty bad video, but how exactly does it explain nothing?

If you don't want to back the game, but want to play it, why not just wait for release and then judge it?

Apologies for the hyperbole. It does explain some things, and shows off lots of little stuff, but doesn't really put the game in the big picture, or give a perspective on the many concepts they want to have in play.

I suppose that's probably too much to ask for their first show off of in-game footage though. I was just happy to see it in play. Looking pretty rad.

I'm still looking forward to SC, but with all the money they've raked in you'd think they could hire some more people and actually get shit done...
But hey, I'm a patient guy, haven't given them any money so far and I'll gladly wait until they have a product that's worth it.
Might be a few years, might be never, but I'd quite happily drop 60$ on a game that delivers on everything they've promised, but the longer they take the less I believe that it will happen.

ED looks quite nice, so I'll probably get the 40$ release version once it's about to be done, the 120$ for the premium beta is just stupid...
Also a bit worrying, if I understand this right, the people who've already bought in can build up their cash and ships, leaving late joiners as easy cannon fodder.
"Oh, you didn't buy in early, let me just blast you to pieces while you're scrabbling around trying to save up for some new modules. Just because I can, I don't need anything you have, have fun starting over cheapskate."

As a matter of fact, they just hired me as a Jr. Technical Designer/Artist (flying out in two weeks) and Kamikaze is working there right now as Lead Technical Designer, so there's hope yet.

MWLL has no hope until the golden fist of PGI releases the IP.
So maybe in 5 years or so you'll see an MWLL 2.0.

2.0 on the PTU is quite good so far, if you can ignore the crashes and random performance drops. Makes me really look forward to what is to come the next few years until release.  :P
Love the new flight model/modes. Multi crew ships are fun. Pewpew is good.
I think if they don't end up catering to the carebears too much this is going to be a really good game.

Short summary of my last 4 days:

Day 1
Finally got to fly my connie, had some good battles both PvE and PvP with some random schmucks as gunners. Then I gave it to one of the guys so I can try the turrets for myself, but the guy flew like my aunt after a bottle of cheap vodka. He ended up headbutting straight into another connie when he tried to land for repairs.
Then had a bug that locked me into the spawn room.

Day 2
Got in after crashing about 10 times during the loading screen. Tried to get into my Mustang Delta but clipped through the geometry about 5 times before reaching the cockpit. Then bugged out somehow and managed to enter the pilot seat from the outside. Shot up some pirate NPCs, landed for repairs and got shot dead by the drones repair lasers. Crash to desktop on respawn and unable to get in again.

Day 3
Tried some FPS combat, but people were far to busy with spess pewpew to care about the FPS station. Respawned, grabbed a Hornet and shot some dudes. Played 2 hours without crashes. Awesome.

Day 4
Played the missions, were fun but nothing too special so far.

PTU 2.0G looks good, well....kinda.
There are still some annoying bugs, like the respawn loop.
Also, party system is totally broken. Getting in the same server with your friends is quite difficult now.
I noticed that the game performances are directly related to the server. Sometime you get 3 FPS with a GTX 980 and an i7, because the server is bottlenecking.

Liked the changes to the IFCS and to the flying physics in general instead. Much better than before.

But they got rid of the buggies in ArcCorp. Shame, liked playing Carmageddon there :(

Oh, and btw, last and most important.
Star Citizen is on free trial for everyone until 14th december 2015. Just register and download the game, you will be given loaner Gladius, an Avenger, and a Mustang Alpha (IIRC).
Download is approximatley 33 GB, and version is 1.3 (that means just Arena mode and Arc Corp landing zone for now)

Got many videos of PTU 2.0 on my Twitch channel here: http://www.twitch.tv/mwstarch1ld/profile

Cry me a river.

The first warning is all the crap with the Russian & in all truth I would've been happy if you had stuck with your guns the first time you threw your toys out of the pram. You do a great deal of good for the community, but at the same time you try to stir up an awful lot of shit whenever your (frankly over-sensitive) feelings get hurt.

If you want to get on with these people then stop acting like everyone is out to get you. It is very tiresome and eventually it is going to alienate people against you (like this little number, I've nothing against you personally, but I am frankly tired of seeing your drama).

So for crying out loud knock it on the head.

I don't know that term mangen.

Quote
In computer terminology, a honeypot is a computer security mechanism set to detect, deflect, or, in some manner, counteract attempts at unauthorized use of information systems. Generally, a honeypot consists of data (for example, in a network site) that appears to be a legitimate part of the site but is actually isolated and monitored, and that seems to contain information or a resource of value to attackers, which are then blocked. This is similar to the police baiting a criminal and then conducting undercover surveillance, and finally punishing the criminal.

Interesting definition, I would have been surprised if Xesle was trying to infer some sort of sexy blackmail shenanigans. So who's supposed to be the police here in this instance? Me, Star, Vic?

The pair of them have been having snidey back an forths at one another for a long time and from my perspective it's not the Italian Stallion's first time stirring the pot. I don't really have much of a vested interest in this outside of not wanting the forum to be utilised for antagonistic bellendery by members of a largely diminished community.

Or in other words, it'd be nice if people could not act like retards and just enjoy what we've got left.

Apologies if I'm not the intended recipient of the remark, it's context sensitive and I'm not savvy enough with the term (or Xesle's opinion of my being fed up of everything/granted over dramatisation of my response; Star or Vic). Either way I don't take offence from it if it was directed my way, I'm a big boy (pubes and everything, proof available upon request) & I can take criticism when it's dished up.

Hope you all had a good Chrimbo my jocks from other cocks, full of myrth and enough rich food to make your shits levitate out of the toilet.

I think I've been in the same game as you three times and you left 0 impression. Like at all. I know you're plenty cheap though, there's bountiful documentation of that. But as I say personally, I never really noticed you were playing and you might not deserve all the bad rap you're getting. But it's the whole smoke without fire argument I guess isn't it.

maybe.

BTW, there is a high possibility that on Friday 29 Jan they will start another free-fly week. That means you will be able to try the game for free for 1 week starting from Friday 29 Jan.

To do that, just register to RSI website by using this link (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/enlist?referral=STAR-FT69-MDDP)  (yes I did add a referral for you in the link), then download the game from here (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/download). Game download size (version 2.1.1) is about ~30 GB. You can pause and resume the download whenever you want.

If the launcher doesn't let you download the game, just wait until Jan 29.

I am still sorely tempted.
Well, tempted or not, I'm strongly suggesting whoever is thinking about getting this game to hurry up.
That's because, after 14th February, Squadron 42 (the single player campaign) won't be included anymore in any game package, but it will be sold as a separate add-on. Basically you will have to pay more if you want to play SQ42 :P

Of course, if you buy the game before that date, you won't have to buy SQ42 separately.

EDIT: The free trial has been extended again, it's valid until 14th February

XML hacking of course  :)
I have better weapons than 2HGauss, though. We call the build I am using "the Frankenstein". It's an RS secret though :-X

You filthy lag switcher you.

Though I guess you're wise enough not to use it on me when we fight in MWLL.  8)

Either that or, MWLL netcode > Star Citizen netcode?  ;D
